I keep getting an incorrect A record with a GoDaddy website

    Dear Forum,

I want to set up my website – http://www.seracom.biz to run through WordPress.com – I have paid the $13.00 fee to map it. http://www.seracom.biz is a google domain. I just want to map the website to http://www.seracom.biz, and leave the mail and app functionality on Google.

I have followed the instructions to set up the A Record name servers in my GoDaddy DNS Zone file as follows:

    A (Host)
    Host Points To TTL
    @ 192.0.74.9 1 Hour
    @ 198.181.116.9 1 Hour
    @ 198.181.117.9 1 Hour
    www 192.0.74.9 1 Hour
    www 198.181.116.9 1 Hour
    www 198.181.117.9 1 Hour

I had to use IP addresses, because the A records do not accept host names, i.e. NS1.WORDPRESS.COM

I also tried to add NS1.WORDPRESS.COM to my CNAME record under www – but I get the following error:

“The specified record already exists. CNAME – WWW”

What am I doing wrong here?

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Kindest regards,

    Justin

    Hi Justin,

To map the domain seracom.biz to your WordPress.com site, you will need to update the domain to use the WordPress.com name servers:

    • NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    • NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    • NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

You can follow GoDaddy’s guide to make that change:

    https://support.godaddy.com/help/article/12317/setting-custom-nameservers-for-domains-registered-with-us

Or you can get in touch with GoDaddy support for help changing the name servers there. Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
