Hi there,
I checked the site and the comment bot user
atgcjfunwthas been spammed by our spam filter software, Akismet, so the account is being identified as spam account. From what I am seeing, either the bot comments have been cleaned up or the bot is no longer posting. I’m only seeing one comment at the moment. Are you still receiving comment spam? -
Thanks @staff-doublebased. It seems to have let up with that user and resolved for now.
How would this be dealt with for future cases if something similar happened? What’s the resolution/fix?

If those comments go into your spam, there is no need to worry. If a spam comments slips through, just mark it as spam so Akismet can finetune its spamfilters.

Sadly this pattern has been happening on other blogs that I don’t own and as responses to a comment I posted so I’m unable to mark it as Spam or do any form of post management.

How can I stop getting notified about spam comment responses on another blog?
I received 50 emails in 48 hours because I can’t even unsubscribe from notifications of my own comments on another blog.
The blog owner in question has retired and is no longer monitoring the account.

Are these other sites WordPress.com sites? Or sites built with the WordPress software from WordPress.org?

Hmmm.. does it make a difference if you turn ‘off’ the setting to get Replies to my comments on this page? https://wordpress.com/me/notifications/comments
You will see the option under the section Comments on other sites on that page.
If you uncheck that option, do you stop getting these notifications in your inbox?

Yes good call. That was the first place I went and expected it to be but weirdly it wasn’t there.
There’s a chance I posted it without it being linked to my account but I’m surprised that I can’t unsubscribe from notifications regardless.

I wanted to check in quickly to see if you are still getting spam messages. We are tracking this issue with our dev team and want to see if changing that setting helped. Also I see you mentioned this:

Can you tell us what date it is that you started receiving those? Also what is the subject line used in the email of one or two of these, for reference. Thanks for the additional info!

Correction: 72 emails in 6 days
Started Friday August 26th to Thursday September 1st. No spam messages anymore.
Subject: “[New comment] Penalty or Not: Haimoudi and Netherlands v. Australia”
