I lost all my photos during Windows Live Space migration…
-
Hi guys,
I performed my Windows Live Space migration a couple of hours ago, and the result I found is all the blogs were still remained, but all the photos disappeared, and I tried a few times to retrieve the data via the original Windows Live Space link, yet, it was redirected to the new WordPress address… I didn’t expect it to be a smooth transition, but how could I retrieve the data? I also tried to use download my space before migrating, and I had to choose the migration after failed downloading a couple of times.
Hope the situation would be seriously treated.
Thanks anyway.
Brian

Brian, were your photos in your posts, or are you talking about a photo album on live.com?

Your photo albums are still on live.com, safe and sound. That system over at live.com is not going to go down. They are keeping that, so your albums are still there.
There is no photo album here at wordpress.COM. We have what are called galleries, but they have to be inserted into either posts or pages on your blog.
Since the albums at live are not going away, you can link to them from your blog here. The other option is do download all the photos and then create galleries on your blog here.

if the photo albums of live.com will be kept, why couldn’t wordpress just copy the links of the images. now all the images are broken links after moving to wordpress. i feel very frustrated!
-
Yes, the broken links of posts and albums makes people uncomfortable….
We are abandoned by Microsoft, that’s the case…. -
Microsoft handled this very badly. And you would expect differently considering who runs the company there. I still don’t know why he gave it all up and couldn’t figure out a way to turn a profit.

“The other option is do download all the photos and then create galleries on your blog here.”
Not really a good option, as the shitty live galary has to download the photos one galary at a time.

If you’ve decided to move your photos, even though that section isn’t going down, you might as well put them on Flickr or something and use the Flickr widget in your sidebar to link to them.
