I lost my Page Rank after using Domain Maping
-
Before I decided to get my own domain name and host, my wordpress blog had an impressive PR4 ranking. I am domain mapping my wordpress domain to my new host. Will my PR eventually catch up? Or would I be better off ending the domain mapping and start getting backlinks to my new domain address

Mine was 5 and it took four months. Aggressively promote your new URL and it will take even less time.
Although I was the first beneficiary of the new domain upgrades, I kicked up a HUGE stink when I found out I’d lost Technorati status and Pagerank. Yet now, from the perspective of a year on, I am a HUGE advocate for the domain upgrade. Why? Well, if you ever do move your blog, all the new links will follow you. Links to blog.wordpress.com will always be to the WP.com blog; links to blog.com will go wherever you put the blog.
The earlier in a blog’s life you can possibly make the domain name switch, the better. It is a good thing ultimately.

I agree, rain, especially with the possibility of a move. I had to wait a bit to do the domain mapping because it didn’t initially handle subdomains, which I had to have because of my main site. So I had my wordpress.com domain for way too long.
(As for Technorati – don’t get me started. I’m still having problems with my blog not being updated over there.)
I don’t really promote my blog much, though. (Interestingly enough, you got to wp.com just a couple of weeks after I did, but you’ve got 4 times the page views :( Maybe I need to stop writing about politics and take up a more internet-friendly topic.
Naw. :) )

Technorati is deeply, deeply broken, alas. It’s a great idea and a horrible execution that since Christmas has been getting worse.
Do NOT go the way of raincoaster; trust me, there is neither peace of mind nor sanity in that.

Also remember: the Fug Girls have done very well, and they STILL have a silly subdomain: http://gofugyourself.typepad.com

Thanks for all your responses–Is it worth my time to email other bloggers who linked to me at my wordpress address to update to my .com address? Also, how long can I expect Google to list my site at the wordpress address? Will this ever fully update. Some of my pages show up at the new .com address while others still linger at the wordpress domain.

Yes, notify as many of the sites that link to you to update the link.
I don’t know how long it takes Google to update their caches.
Yes, rain, it’s hard work
