I lost my site

  • Unknown's avatar

I had a personal travel blog for years, but let the hosting expire last year.

I just went to go renew it and was told that it was gone, forever…

    Is this possible?

My other free.wordpress sites are still in my dashboard…but the most important one is nowhere to be found…

    Help!

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

    Hi there:

I had a personal travel blog for years, but let the hosting expire last year.

I just went to go renew it and was told that it was gone, forever…

    Is this possible?

Your website hosting is like your home – you pay every month to keep your content in one place. Once you stop paying for that hosting, you lose your content as nearly all hosting providers delete your content once you stop paying for it. Unfortunately, what the hosting provider told you was accurate.

WordPress.com – since we offer free sites – if you had a paid upgrade and stopped paying for it, your site would revert to a free account and your content would be unaffected. You can try and look up your site on the Internet Archive to see if they have a cached version of your old site that you can use to try and recreate the content on a new site here at WordPress.com. But otherwise, that content would have been lost when your hosting was cancelled.

    I hope that clarifies things.
