I lost my site

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a paid subscription for a domain. I was using WordPress to manage my blog on this site. Just recently I went to access my page and it is gone … literally. When I type in my domain name I get the following error message: ‘This site can’t be reached
XXXX.com’s server DNS address could not be found.’

I’ve checked with my domain provider, my payment for the hosting services never lapsed. What happened!?!?!

I have a paid subscription for a domain.

What is the exact URL starting with http:// of the site you are referring to please?

This is wordpress.COM support. We cannot answer any questions posted here accurately until we have the relevant URL and have confirmed hosting.
We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
    (1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
    (2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM. That support is found at http://wordpress.ORG/support/
    (3) Also, note that we do not provide Jetpack support https://jetpack.com/support/ for sites linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites wordpress.com account page.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, support docs and support forums, run different theme versions of themes with the same names, and many people get confused about the two. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
The wordpress.ORG support forums are at http://wordpress.org/support. The wordpress.ORG login link is here https://login.wordpress.org/ If you do not have an account yet then click Create an account https://login.wordpress.org/register/ and if you have lost an account password click Lost password? https://login.wordpress.org/lostpassword/

    Hi there,

I’ve checked with my domain provider

As the domain wasn’t registered through WordPress.com, you will need to speak to your domain registrar about why you do not have access to your domain — they should be able to tell you why.

I was using WordPress to manage my blog on this site.

There are no WordPress.com sites listed in your account. Do you have a self hosted WordPress.org site? The differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org are explained here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

Come back to me if you have any questions.

Turns out I’m not so good at reading all of the finer print. When I renewed my paid domain subscription I was requested to complete a domain verification. I guess this is related to a new ICANN policy.

I now have access to my blog again. Thank you for all of the contributions and suggestions above, they led me to the solution.

I’m glad to hear you got everything sorted out and have access to your blog again :)
