I lost the ability to control font, characteristics of the fonts and size

I have posted 58 posts already.
In all cases I used this capability:
    Highlight text,
Right click on the text. A menu opens. One of the definitions is “Fonts”
I bring my cursor to the “Font” and another menu opens.
I click on “Show Fonts”. A dialogue box opens. In it I can choose the typeface, the characteristics, like “Bold” or other possibilities, and the size of the font.
This was a crucial instrument in creating the posts.
I used to change the font to Time New Roman and size 18. Sometimes I used bigger letters.
I took a break of about two weeks and when I came back to post a new posting, this capability disappeared and does not show up any more.

You still have all the menus that lead to the dialogue box. But the dialogue box does not appear.

I tried to fool the program and bring designed text from Word, but it all turns to one small typeface with no ability to change.

    Please help,
    Thank you so much,
    Giora

  • That definitely wasn’t a feature of our system, maybe it was part of a browser you were using?

You can manually control your fonts following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/font-size-color/

If it was not a feature of my system (What do you mean by “system”? the theme?), then why is there the capability to do all that I wrote about before and arrive at the menu item “SHow Fonts” and click on it? Isn’t everything that you click on supposed to do something?
If I click on Bold, the highlighted letters become bold. Everything that I click on does something that I can see. Why does it not do it when I click on Show Fonts?

  • We don’t have any such right-click contextual menus at WordPress.com.

What you’re referring to must have been a feature of the browser you were using.

I am still using the same browser, Safari.
So why did it stop working?

In my Theme, can’t you highlight some text and right click on it to see a scroll-down menu that has the word “Font” in it?

  • Yes, that’s a feature of Safari only, not something that we have done.

Their feature seems to be broken in most places as of late, not just here. It appears to be a problem with Safari 5.1.

I just did something. I highlighted some text. I right clicked and got the scroll-down menu with “Fonts” in it. I brought the cursor to Fonts and in the new menu that opened chose “Style”. A dialogue opened and I just clicked on “Done”, and suddenly the text control I was speaking about all the time opened. But whatever I did on it just did not effect the text.
So you say that Word press does not have all that I described?
    Giora

  • That’s correct, that’s a feature provided by Apple via Safari, and not a feature offered or supported by us.

I took a screen shot of that dialogue box. Is it possible to send it to you, so you’ll see what I had before and does not work any more?
    Giora

  • I know what you’re referring to. I have used it myself before, but it’s definitely broken and the problem is on Apple’s end. This is a feature offered by them through Safari, not a feature offered or supported by us.

So I’ll try talking with them. Maybe there was an update lately with problems and I can go back to the old one.

Thank you so much. I am glad we found some clarity, even if it does not solve my problem yet.

But now I know of where to look for the answer.

    Be blessed,
    Giora
