i mapped a domain and no longer can login to that dashboard

Now I’d like to either 1) have access to that old site (domain expired, it went away, I cannot login any longer) or 2) create a new site to replace the old one (which I’ve started with this account), but I cannot map the basehorchamber.org domain that we own because it was mapped to the old site!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

http://basehorchamber.org/defaultsite does not seem to be mapped to anything. What is the underlying URL of the WordPress.com blog to which it was mapped? If it was mapped to a site not hosted by WordPress.com then you need to be at WordPress.org for help with that.

I am not sure, I didn’t initially create the wordpress account, I was just an editor for the site and it was basehorchamber.org since it was created. All I know is that before the domain expired, I thought I had re-purchased the domain and mapped it within our wordpress site. Then the domain expired and I can no longer login to edit that site.

If it helps, arazak was my username – email address would’ve been (email visible only to moderators and staff). SO, when I try to login, it shakes me out and says user doesn’t exist. When I type in my email address to reset my password, it says this email address doesn’t exist!

I was going to forget the old site and just create a new one, but when I went to map our domain, it says that domain is already mapped to another site…

Do you know who your web host was?

  • Unknown's avatar

Unfortunately, no, and I guess I assumed it was wordpress? The person who created our site says she doesn’t know, either?

The only other thing I might guess is 1&1? That is who our domain was with in the past, so perhaps the site was hosted there, too?

Although basehorchamber.org has been registered, it is not using WordPress.com nameservers.

    basehorchamber.org is hosted by 1&1
    whois
    Name Servers:
    ns-us.1and1-dns.org
    ns-us.1and1-dns.de
    ns-us.1and1-dns.com
    ns-us.1and1-dns.us

  • Unknown's avatar

So…you’re telling me the files are hosted on 1and1’s servers? When I paid for domain mapping within WordPress (receipt ID 7017472), what did I do there? How do I map basehorchamber.org to WordPress servers?

Also – is that account I used to edit BasehorChamber.org (just a month ago) available on wordpress again: arazak was my username? Did that just disappear because the files were linked to the old domain owner’s 1and1 account?

    Hi there,

It doesn’t look like you purchased anything in this account. Did you perhaps pay in a different account? We would have sent you a receipt via email. What was the email address where you got that receipt?

In regards to your question about the username arazak. There is already a user who has that name. It could be you of course (I’m not able to provide the associated email address for security reasons). You’re always welcome to try and do a password reset right here:

    http://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

With that said, if you only created the username on a self-hosted WordPress.org site then it only existed there. We didn’t make a record of it and you will need to create a new one here.

For some reason the account that received the email was our Basehor Dairy Days (email visible only to moderators and staff). But basehorchamber.org does not map to that, either. (And I don’t want it to.) It was probably sent there because I think I may have paid with that PayPal account?

Nonetheless, yes, I understand that my account (username) is arazak. I cannot log in as that, it says no account exists. I ask it to email me my forgotten password (it is not forgotten, but it says my account doesn’t exist), and it says my email address doesn’t exist in your system. The only other email address that might be associated with it is (email visible only to moderators and staff), but we no longer have access to that…that was what we used when Cecilia Harry created our WordPress account in 2012.

I can give up on the old site, that is fine with me, but if I can’t map my new WordPress site to basehorchamber.org within WordPress, then what am I to do?

In the meantime, I’ve created a redirect to basehorchamber.wordpress.com, but I’d rather not settle with that.

I also have Cecilia Harry, the one who created the initial account with WordPress trying to retrieve her password and information, so maybe there is still hope?

I’m sorry if I wasn’t clear. It appears from your description that the arazak user which you used before was entirely on your previous WordPress.org site. Since that username is already taken you at WordPress.com you will need to select a new and different username.

Where are you attempting to log in that it says no user exists for the user arazak?

If you purchased the domain mapping using the yahoo.com email address you should be able to log in using that account (again, you can reset any password using the Lost Password form which I provided previously). Once you have access to that account we can transfer the upgrade to whichever account within WordPress.com you need to or we can cancel the upgrade as needed; as I’m not sure from our discussion that you need WordPress.com at this point. Instead it sounds more like you may want to continue using 3rd party servers to host a self-hosted WordPress.org site instead of a WordPress.com site.

In case you’re not aware, here are the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
