I mapped my domain to wordpress, but my email isn't working
-
I successfully mapped my domain to a new wordpress.com site
( https://firstfriendsnjny.org/ ), but I can’t get the email associated with the old domain/site to work. It looks like all of the MX info was transferred over. I can’t figure out what I need to add.
I will need to discontinue the mapping if I can’t get the email working asap. Thank you.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It looks like my MX has the required information:
MX: firstfriendsnjny.org
Mail handled by igw5002.site4now.net with priority 10Please advise asap, as people depend on this email and I will have to abandon the mapping if I can’t get it to work.

Hi there,
Domain mapping and MX appear to be set up correctly. One possible explanation would be if the MX record itself was incorrect. It would be a good idea to contact your email provider to double check they are correct.
If they tell you the MX records you’ve added are fine, come back to me and I’ll take a look.
Let me know how you get on.

Now the MX record (only) is faded with a wait signal over it on my DNS records on my wordpress account.
When we try to log in to email it just goes to the new site, not to email.
The MX records must be correct because the email was working before and it is the same on the DNS records on Smarter ASP the only think that I can think of is that there is also a CNAME record on the other account. Here are the records from the Smarter ASP account:
A firstfriendsnjny.org 205.144.171.40 3600
A *.firstfriendsnjny.org 205.144.171.40 3600
A http://www.firstfriendsnjny.org 205.144.171.40 3600
CNAME http://ftp.firstfriendsnjny.org http://ftp.smarterasp.net 3600
CNAME mail.firstfriendsnjny.org mail5002.site4now.net 3600
MX firstfriendsnjny.org Priority: 10 , MX: igw5002.site4now.netI will have to abandon the mapping this morning if I can’t get it up and running in the next couple of hours. Any ideas?

I just spoke to them. They said the MX records are fine and they think I need to install a mail plugin at wordpress. However there isn’t one in my list. Is that correct? Please advise asap. Thanks!

Hi,
Domain mapping and your MX records were set up yesterday. It’s best to allow 24 hours for these changes to take effect — sometimes it can take as long as 48 hours. As long as you have entered the correct MX records, it should resolve.
they think I need to install a mail plugin at wordpress.
Custom plugins aren’t a supported feature on WordPress.com and are only available for self-hosted WordPress.org websites. What was their reason for recommending this?
-
Not sure, but if it’s going to take 24-48 hours, I need to abandon the mapping. This email is used by a refugee support organization. Is there any way to forward or get them access sooner.
If not, can you advise me about restoring the original site? -
My other question is– if you look above there is a CNAME record with mail in the address. should that be added to the site? or only the MX?
-
At this point I would upgrade to a live chat on wordpress if I could figure out how to do that.
-
Ok- now I just need to point my domain back to my old site through SmarterAsp until we have more time to figure this out. Can you please advise? Thank you.

Ok- I just upgraded in order to get access to live chat response, but still don’t have access to that option on my page. How can I access the live chat support?

Hi there,
If you want to revert back to the point before you purchased domain mapping you can do the following:
1. Cancel Domain Mapping
2. Reset your nameservers back to the values they were before you changed them to ours (WordPress.com): ns1.site4now.net, ns2.site4now.net and ns3.site4now.net.
If you would rather talk through it with a member of staff over Live Chat, you do that from this page:
https://wordpress.com/help/contact
Let me know how you get on.
