I Messed Up My Website & Need Help!

Hi! Last night I went into my dashboard and (without even researching) changed my theme to the Astra theme because I have another website with that theme and I love it! BUT I learned quickly after installing a new theme that my website got all messed up. I didn’t even have access to the free astra templates to start with and that’s when I knew something was wrong. I played around as much I could to make it work but I kept messing it up more. I I then decided I wanted to undo what I did. I tried the WP Rollback plugin and that did nothing to get it to my old theme. Then I researched the WP Reset plugin and decided that would do me no help as it doesn’t apply to themes. I got so frustrated with how messed up it was I installed the WP Maintenance Mode plugin for now. AHG! So I have decided that maybe this mess up was for the best and that I can start new and redo my website completely. But I don’t even know how to do that on WordPress. Do I need to make another account and transfer my domain and hosting to start fresh? How do I start over with my website. I’m ready to take on the work but just don’t know how to start fresh. Do I do the WP Reset plugin? Do I create a new wordpress account and transfer my domain and hosting? Do something else? Please help!

  • Hi there,

It looks like you’re in the wrong forum. It appears that you’re using the open-source WordPress software and therefore you need to seek help at these forums:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

These forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites only. If you want to know more about the differences between WordPress.com and the WordPress software you can read this document:

How can we tell if our site is WordPress.com hosted? I am having a similar issue and would like to reset my site to its default settings but can’t. I was thinking my site was self hosted but am unsure. How can I check. I do have a business plan on WordPress when I started the website.

  • Hey @izzyworldpros,

I would love to assist you, but in order to keep threads on topic and prevent the OP from receiving email notifications, I wanted to see if you could create a new post?:

Feel free to add the modlook tag to the thread so staff can respond immediately.

    Thanks!

    Hi @fstat,

I tried going to those forums and to log in but it says I don’t have an account?? Why is logging into wordpress so difficult. I can’t even get help to fix my site because i can’t login to the forums!

Can I please talk to a human to help me? Please send through a phone number or a chat method. I just need to talk with someone LIVE to help me! I’m so frustrated with WordPress….

This forum and the .org one have no connection at all. You’ll need to register a new account over there for assistance.
If your site was hosted here at WordPress.com you’d have loads of help. But using the wordpress software elsewhere is a different matter…
