    Hi there,

If you want to move to WordPress.org to add plugins I can provide you a partial refund of $73 so that you can keep the domain. You can then point the domain to any host you choose for your self-hosted site. We have a list of recommended hosts here:

    Hosting

This guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:

If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:

If you want the partial refund please reply to confirm!

Thank you. The partial refund would be excellent. Thank you for your help. When can I expect the refund to go through?

Hello again. I have just set up an account with ‘Hostgator’ i have gone to c panel and downloaded wordpress in the quick install, i have received my email with the login details. How do i go about transferring my domain. I haven’t really put anything on the current blogg so I’m not really bothered about exporting anything off there to use on the .org site, or have you got to export everything in order to transfer the domain? so for my ignorance but I’m still very much learning my way around. many thanks

    Hi Chris,

Please note that there is a 60 day lock on newly purchased domains. ICANN (the governing body over domains) places a 60 day lock on all new domain registrations and renewals to prevent fraud. This is a requirement placed on all domain registrars, so there is no way to waive it. You would be able to transfer the domain in March 2014.

Once that time comes the guide below explains how to transfer the domain name to another registrar, including how to access the authorization (EPP) code:

Transfer a Domain to Another Registrar

You do not have to export anything to transfer the domain. The domain and your site are independent of each other. You can think of the domain just as the mailing address, but the content of your site would still be available. You can read more about this here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/all-about-domains/

Please let me know if you have any questions!
