I moved my DebraStitt.biz to GoDaddy’s c-panel platform built on WordPress. However, wordpress.com doesn’t seem to want to let go of my address. When I type http://www.DebraStitt.biz into a post for LinkedIn, for example, what shows up is DebraStitt.wordpress. PLEASE make this stop!!!!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Your site debrastitt.biz is loading correctly on my end and it’s pointing to your GoDaddy site. Here’s a screenshot of what I’m seeing:

If this doesn’t work or you have more questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help!

It loads properly, but the “preview” shows up as debrastitt.wordpress. I had a connection on Linkedin confirm this when she tried to share DebraStitt.biz.

  • Have you tried removing and re-adding your site on LinkedIn? Maybee this will fix it.

You want me to delete my LinkedIn account? Am I understanding you correctly? That’s just not an option.

    I have a screenshot I can provide.

If you have your own LinkedIn account, you can test it yourself and you’ll see what I mean. Just create a new post by simply typing in http://www.debrastitt.biz and the preview will appear with http://www.debrastitt.wordpress.

VERY ANNOYING! I can’t share my website and have the correct preview show up. It happens on FB too!

  • Hi there,

That is not what @fstat said. Go to LinkedIn and remove your site from your profile there. Then add it again.

That said, that might not help. It sounds like LinkedIn has a cached preview of your site, and they don’t offer any method to manually clear their cache. One thing you can try is to add “?1” to the end of your site’s link when you add it back on LinkedIn. It won’t affect how the link works at all, but it should force LinkedIn to check the data for your site again and fetch new information for the preview.

However, we have no control at all over this, so if that doesn’t work you’ll need to contact LinkedIn support for more help.

    It happens on FB too!

On Facebook it’s the same issue – they cache the preview for your site on their servers, and their cache needs to be flushed so they can fetch new preview information for your site. Luckily Facebook does offer a tool that allows you to do this:

    https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/sharing/

Paste a link to your site or a particular post/page there and click Debug to see the current preview they have saved. Then click Rescrape to have them fetch a new preview.

    Thanks for your help.

It’s unfortunate that WordPress insists on inserting their name in addresses in the first place. I realize it’s a way to get people to upgrade. However, the WordPress name already appears on every page of free and paid sites.

People shouldn’t have to spend their valuable time dealing with this. It’s extremely annoying and ruins a person’s brand.
