the life of me figure out how to creat subcategories for my sidebar. I did not find that particularly tutorial helpful. It tells me that it can be done, but does not walk me through it.. I have successfully created (with my categories widget) a category for Favorite Recipes, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to create the subcategories for, say, Bread. Please don’t tell me to read the tutorials. I’ve been at it most of the day. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m really stumped here. Heellpp!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When you create the new category “Bread” in “Categories,” click the dropdown and choose “Recipes” for the parent category. You can do the same thing with existing categories by editing them.
When using the category widget, you need to be sure to click “show hierarchy” or the child categories will look no different from the parents. :-)
-
Also, do this from your “Categories” area under the dashboard — you can access it from either the left sidebar or by clicking “Categories” in the “Right now” section.
-
If the category is empty, it won’t appear in the widget, I believe. So you have to have at least one post that uses the (for ex.) “Bread” category before the category appears.

Wow, this is actually starting to make sense to me. I wasn’t worried about it not showing up yet in preview, cuz a few volunteers here explained that to me the other day. But I couldn’t even create them in my “ghost” blog, if you get what I’m saying. This stuff about the category drop-down and choosing the parent from there makes perfect sense. Sorry I took so long to respond, but it’s dinnertime, and after a day at the laptop, I was facing a mealless end of day — not a good thing! S & Swas calling! As soon as I have things under control here I’ll give it all a whirl, and will let you know how I make out. You have been enormously helpful, and I thank you muchly. Stay tuned!

Hello there again,
What mmadfan has shared is good news for your. We can create Parent categories and child sub-categories. And I have already described how you can create a custom menu and include them in it in another thread you posted. Remember though that there will be nothing to display in any Category or sub-category until you publish a post in that Category or sub-category. -
~~timethief!
