I Need a Large Size 'follow via email' button on the front page.

I would like the ‘follow via email’ button to be on the home page in a LARGE easy to see format. I’m using Portfolio theme which doesn’t have a sidebar on the front page. It’s very difficult for people to find that tiny button on the bottom right. If WordPress put into sharing options this would be possible, is there any chance of that?

Hi there,
Since your theme doesn’t have a sidebar, there really isn’t a place on your site to insert that image. What you could do is create an additional menu item which is a link directly to whatever you would like. You can create a custom link in your menu by logging in to your account and then going to Appearance and then Menus. The second box down on your left is for custom links, and all you have to do is enter the URL that you’d like it to go to and what you’d like the actual Menu item to say. Click the button and it will be added to your menu!

I had no idea you could create a custom link to the ‘follow via email’ button. How would i find the url for it?
But really, why doesn’t WordPress put this as an option in dashboard sharing options? This is just a way of sharing and would make sense to be available. Is this possible at some point?
People are confused about what to do. Alot of people who come to my site don’t use social media, and have very limited computer skills. They actually think the WordPress ‘like’ button is to do with Facebook, so they don’t click it. They would happily subscribe to get emails I think, but this option needs to be apparent for them with a ‘nice big button’ to click on the front page.

Hi there,
There is already a follow button on your site at all times, actually. If you log out of your site and go visit it, there will always be a follow button in one of the corners of the page which allows visitors to follow your site if they are WordPress.com users, or to subscribe via email if they are not!
The custom menu link would have to be to something which you’ve decided on. Perhaps it could take them to a page which explains to them that they need to click the follow button at the bottom of the page?

Yes I know its there, but were not aiming at me clicking it! My point is, its just too small and not bright enough to be noticed.
Looks like theres no other way around this for now.
Could I send this in as a feature request? Ask WordPress to include the colourful follow icon, and include as a sharing option in dashboard, with the facebook twitter link etc

Absolutely! I’ve gone ahead and submitted your suggestion to our developers. They’ll review it and any other suggestions which are submitted and will do what they can to implement them as they go!

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for that. There’s not much that bugs me about WordPress…I love having it & love the Portfolio theme. This would just put the icing on the cake!
