I need an Avatar without Gravatar

I had a profile picture for my blog and it just now disappeared. To upload a new picture, your website wants me to share all of my information with Gravatar, which I do not want to do. Is there a way to upload a profile picture without Gravatar?

A Gravatar account and a wordpress.COM account are one in the same thing. http://blog.gravatar.com/2013/04/03/gravatar-and-wordpress-com-together-forever/ Both are owned by Automattic Inc. and Automattic Inc owns other products too. https://automattic.com/ So the answer to the question is no.

Let me qualify that because you ca upload any image you want into an image widget https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/image-widget/ or text widget https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/ and display them in your sidebar but they will not display in the place of a gravatar.

Note that one can hide their gravatar profile. To hide your Gravatar profile, login and on the bottom right hand corner of your Gravatar profile page you will find a “hide” button visible only to you that you can click. http://en.gravatar.com/support/profile-privacy/
Gravatars/blavatars (favicons) do not show up instantly after uploading them. Gravatar images are cached and frequently take several days to display after a change.
Dashboard → Settings → General
Do not keep uploading!

To enable Gravatar display and hovercard display on your blog go to > Settings > Discussion and scroll way done the page to “Avatars”.
