I need directions to set up a simple website

  I am trying to set up a simple website. I need a static front page, a blog, pages for information that can be changed or added to, a way to connect from the front page to the other pages. I want to be able to use pictures. I bought Zuki because I liked the look and thought I could modify it. I can’t figure out how to build a site using Zuki. My questions are: (1) are the any simpler themes that can do what I want to do and (2) are there some good directions for setting up a website. My experience is limited to setting up and using blogs. I thought of a website as a next logical step but I am having trouble taking the step.

  Hi Suzanne,

  I can help you get that working with the Zuki theme, if you want to keep working with that one. To set up your front page like the Zuki demo site, you can use widgets. The content for each part of the Zuki front page is controlled by Widgets. You can add any widget to the front page widget areas to place your content there.

  To add widgets, you can open your site’s Customizer. There, you can go to the “Widgets” section and then open any of the “Front Page” widget areas to add content to the front page. The Zuki support page includes a diagram of where each of those widget areas will show up on the page.

  Please let me know if you run into questions about that, and I can walk you through any places where you get stuck. If you’d prefer a regular page as your site’s front page (instead of Zuki’s special front page template), I can help you do that either with the Zuki theme or another theme.

  The second guide has some steps that are specific to websites with the WordPress.com Business Plan, but most of the steps can be used for any website.
