  I can’t get the link to verify and can’t change my gravatar picture.

  Hi there! If you’re able to login to your WordPress.com account, is the email address you see here correct? https://wordpress.com/me/account

  If not, please update it there, if possible.

  For Gravatar, are you able to go here and add a new image? https://en.gravatar.com/emails/ If not, what happens when you try?
