  i want to change the background colour in the main body of the page from white to grey can anyone help me? novice!

  Try this out, I don’t think it misses any sections out on your main page:

  .site-content .entry-content,
  .site-content .entry-summary,
  .site-content .entry-header,
  #primary {background-color:#999;}
