  I am not sure which type of site i need, wordpress.com or wordpress.org

  I want to start a site that will be a resource page for a very specific audience but after some number of years, if I have been successful and have enough support/followers, i would want to have a members only (paid) section. does that mean I have to start with hosting my own from the beginning?

  Start here, get a custom domain name & map it to your blog (build a brand & makes moving easier) – build traffic

  The members only would be difficult to do here, but you need a lot of visitors and content to support a members section, so – build content then decide what you want to do, you might get burned out in 6 months so the low cost here is a good trial
