I need help including content under the categories "About, events, etc"

  • Unknown's avatar

I need help setting up content (that may change periodically) under the categories under my photo and name on the front page. I’ve written “About” content but it’s not displaying under the category “About.” (if that’s the right term). I haven’t been able to include content under the other tabs.

Do you have a clear, concise step-by-step document for setting up the entire blog because I think I’ll run into more questions. But for now I’d like to at least get my blog set up so that visitors can see my content. I then want to be able to post updates.

    Thank you!

    Lois

  • Hello Lois,

I think this 5-steps guide to set up a WordPress.com blog can be useful to you. Do not hesitate to post here on the forum any question you don’t find inside the support pages :)

As for the specific enquiry you asked help for, I saw your blog and your About blog post hasn’t been categorised under ‘About’, but under ‘Uncategorized’.
Here’s a quick guide that explains how to use categories.

I’m not quite sure what you meant with

I haven’t been able to include content under the other tabs.

Can you please explain this for me? Are you talking about the sidebar on the right?

As for publishing content/posts below your ‘About’ content (if I got it right), you can get this blog entry as sticky so all the other blog posts will be displayed under the pinned ‘About’ post.

Hope to have clarified some of your doubts!
    Cheers :)

    Hi StefaniaMattana,

Thanks for your reply. I should have been more clear. I do know that the “About” content is listed as uncategorized on my site. But I didn’t know how to put it into the “About” category. I read the instructions when I worked on it, but it still ended as uncategorized. So I’m doing something wrong.

I haven’t checked the link you provided yet but I think I’ve read through those instructions already. So, how do you create content (language) and then insert that content under the various categories that are listed under my photo, the four or five categories listed there. What I need to know is how to do that so that when you click on the categories, the content appears. That’s what I mean when I say “I haven’t been able to include content under the other tabs.”

So I don’t mean I needed help with the tabs or anything on the right sidebar. Thanks.

I don’t want to put anything else under “About,” just what I’ve written up on the site now. But I will want to add or change data for the category, “Events.”

The instructions for putting content under the categories said (I think), to first create a page with your content, then save it to the category. I though I did that and it ended up “uncategorized.”

Can you tell me just how you create your entry (language) for the categories and then save them there so that when you click on the categories, that content comes up?

I hope that’s clear. Thanks again.

    Lois

  • Hello Lois,

Thanks for your explanations, I’ll address your doubts one by one and hopefully we’ll get all sorted :)

The categories you have displayed under your photos are part of the navigation menu. Unfortunately, at the moment all your categories lead to your about post, so that’s why they’re not working properly.

I assume you want each categories to display the related blog posts (= posts you assign to each categories) once you click on them.

So here’s what you have to:

    1. Create categories
    2. Assign categories to blog posts
    3. Create a custom menu with your categories entries

I’ve linked all the step-by-step content you need to achieve those points. Please take a look and see if all is clear. If you need any further support, we’re here to help :)
