I need help installing a theme I found in Theme Viewer here at WordPress.
Now here’s the thing, I have absolutely no idea what I am doing, and require assistance to place a theme I found into my blog here.
I would like this theme… http://themes.wordpress.net/testrun/?wptheme=4012 … to override the one I have now.
So where do I begin? Thanks in adavnace.

simply put, you cant. in future read the ‘Read me first’ threads and the ‘FAQ threads’ and use the search feature, save yourself asking a questions thats been answered a dozern times already

Ummm … that’s not exactly true.
If you do not purchase the css customization upgrade then your theme choices are limited to those found here -> Presentation -> Themes.
If you do purchase the css customization upgarde then you can put the theme you indicate above into Sandbox and css customize it. Do note though that undertaking this is not recommended to those who have no experience with css. -
Let’s try this again.
99.9% of the time when you see “wordpress”, whoever is writing that is discussing regular wordpress found over at http://wordpress.org and is hosted elsewhere. When folks are talking specifically about wp.com, they’ll say so. (Unless you’re Technorati and still don’t know the difference. *sigh*)
Those themes over at wp.net are for regular wordpress. We’re on a shared environment here and do not have file access as that would be a security risk.
Now, you can purchase what’s know as teh CSS upgrade. Do note though that this will still not allow you to upload any theme you want. You still do not have file level access. What you do get is the ability to change the CSS for any theme for that blog you’ve picked up the upgrade for. Some folks have taken the sandbox theme, a plain white theme that does not have any css attached to it and developed skins that look like other themes. Do note that you just can’t copy over the css from your theme as each theme id different with the names of the divs.
You are free to submit a feedback monday morning with the suggestion that you would like to see this theme added. Please link to the actual theme’s home page, not the test run page or anything connected to wp.net as that doesn’t give any information about usage licencing. There should be a link on the wp.net page though that you can follow. Also be sure to include your reasoning why you would like to see that theme added in.
Hope this helps,

First, thanks for the replies and assistance. Even though I am still right where I was earlier, I at least know that it is possible to change my theme to the desired theme I was looking into.
As for suggesting the theme, well, I’m not going to. Nice notion, but I’m just seeing it as a feasible addition to themes already in the choice bank. Besides, it was a more personal choice, and not one I believe many would go for.
On that note, I’ll just keep my fingers crossed that one day I’ll figure out the labyrinth that is CSS, and use it to make my very own theme. Chances of that happening? Not even close.

Wait, I am a novice and I have a similar question as above. What I learnt from timethief is: if I purchase the css customization upgarde then I can put my theme from theme viewer into Sandbox and css customize it. But drmike said that it will still not allow me to upload any theme I want despite the purchase. So if I want to replace my existing wordpress theme with the one I like in theme viewer:
1. Do I still need to purchase the upgrade?
2. After purchase, how does the replacement of theme works? Please give advice as this has puzzled me for long time despite I try to read the solutions here.
Thank you.

Using the CSS upgrade allows you to change the look of your blog, not simply paste in the way another blog looks. It’s more complicated than that. You cannot simply replace existing themes with ones not selected for WordPress.com; what you can do is tweak the ones we have here to look more like those ones. You have to do this in the code, which is why you’re well advised to learn CSS before purchasing the upgrade.

If I insist that I want to get my exsiting theme to be replaced with a theme in theme viewer, can anyone advise please? Thank you.
-
As Dr Mike has said, those are not themes for WordPress.com
You will have to leave WordPress.com and host your blog elsewhere using WordPress.org software, if you absolutely insist on using one of those themes, just as you’d have to go to LiveJournal if you insisted on using one of their themes OR, as we have suggested, send a Feedback to staff requesting that the theme be added eventually. There is no telling how long it will take or if they will add the theme.
If you are very good with CSS you could try to duplicate the look of that theme in Sandbox, using the CSS upgrade. Attempting to duplicate existing themes isn’t something a beginner is advised to do, I don’t think. It is like trying to copy a painting.

Here’s some additional information and key links for css customization that may be useful.CSS Customization Upgrade
The 15$ you pay to upgrade a wordpress.com blog enables you to to alter the appearance of your theme and but not the underlying php code. Purchasing the upgrade entitles you to customize css on one blog for one year.
The upgrade is not recommended to bloggers who do not have css customization experience. Although there is a forum and other bloggers may volunteer to help you if needs be, there is no staff support provided for learning css customization.
CSS customization can be used to improve on any existing theme; you can define your own classes for use in posts; you can select the Sandbox theme and build on one of the Minimalist layouts or, opt for no stylesheet and do it all yourself. If you feel you are up to the challenge of customizing a theme then these link , link , link will be helpful. There are also css resources that you can access listed in the FAQs blog. -

this is getting a bit complicated for me too.I am also confused about how to use theme here.
So if I am using the free hosting, that means I cannot do any edit with the theme?
Overall,I have to download the software from wordpress.org and host it in a paid site, then I can do whatever with the theme I want.
Am i Right?

if you have a wp.com blog you cannot edit the themes. you have to, as you said, download the software from wp.org & host it etc etc and then you can edit as you please.
