removing subscribers
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Short version:
You can’t block or delete followers. You can either make the blog private or accept that reality because there is no means of blocking anyone on the internet from access any public blog and submitting comments if and when comments are open.
To change blog visibility to Private go to Dashboard > Settings > Reading scroll to Site Visibility and choose option 3
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/Long version:
We cannot block or delete subscribers from public blogs. Anyone and everyone can access public blogs and that’s indeed what the public designation means. However, please read this about public blogs that become private blogs > Blog Privacy and Subscribers > http://wpcommaven.wordpress.com/2011/09/05/blog-privacy-and-subscribers/Note that you have complete control over everything that’s posted to your blog via comment moderation
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-moderationFor trolls, you can “blacklist” them at Settings > Discussion toward the bottom of that page. Enter their email address, their username, and if they included it, their website URL. That will automatically send them to moderation so that their comments do not appear on the blog. Do note though that if they are determined, they can use a different email address or username to get around that.
Also, do not put their IP address in the blacklist. IP addresses are no longer unique, and you might end up blocking legitimate visitors. In fact for over a decade only about 30% of us have IPs that trace back to any individual computer. Also, all they would have to do is go to a wi-fi hot spot, or connect via a different ISP and they could get around that.
re: spam followers and or porno followers
On the bottom of your > Settings > Discussion page you can set the maximum rating for gravatars. If someone has an inappropriate rating for a Gravatar image that’s actually porno orientated you can use the “Report Abuse” link on their Gravatar profile bottom right hand corner to let Staff know. If the follower has an inappropriate blog hosted here at WordPress.com, you can also report that to Staff. See here Report Mature or Spam Blogs http://en.support.wordpress.com/report-blogs/ -
If you have subscribers who have asked for you to remove them they must act to unsubscribe. Your followers control their own subscriptions – you don’t and can’t do this for him/her. Here are brief instructions for unsubscribing from a blog if the person has a WordPress.com username account:
1. click the “unsubscribe” link on the emails of the posts received at the very bottom of the emails.
2. go here > http://wordpress.com/#!/read/edit/ locate and click the “x” next to any blog there to unfollow it and no longer receive posts in the Reader or by email.
3. go to the blog in question and click the unfollow/follow link on your Admin bar.If they do not have a WordPress.com username account then 1. applies.
1. click the “unsubscribe” link on the emails of the posts received at the very bottom of the emails. -
Timethief – I understand that they can come back and subscribe again but this people I want removed already forgot about my blog because it’s been 3 years since I posted anything – but I want start posting again and I don’t want my post to be sent by email to them – I ended my relationship with my significant other and it ended really bad – and he is became quite the stalker – I don’t want anything coming from the blog to his emails or his friends emails which all used to be subscribed to my blog 3 years ago – I really need this people removed or I will never be able to post in my blog again and I will lose everything and have to start a new blog – please I beg your help in this – there must be something wordpress can do? I cannot make my blog private because it wouldn’t help remove those who are already subscribed which is my problem and I also read that in order to make the blog private new members have to subscribe by opening a wordpress account and that’s going to make it very hard for my blog to gain popularity in my new city – I’m trying to reopen my company here in this new city I moved to away from everything and I really need your help. Please

Well thanks for nothing – I guess I will just start a new blog on another platform – and you should learn to be more sympathetic – it sounded like didn’t even care – if you are not a people person – don’t be involved in costumer service – you know since I became a member of WordPress 3 yrs ago I’ve had a good opinion of them and their technicians until I came across this issue I wanted help with – instead I get you and your attitude – it really reflects bad on wordpress – again thanks for you non-sympathy, your short rude answers, and your lack of care. You have one less blogger to worry about!
-
@TT – I thought I saw some subscribers cleared (removed) from a public blog after it had been set to private?
Is my memory correct?
-
@auxclass
Did you read the post I linked to here? http://wpcommaven.wordpress.com/2011/09/05/blog-privacy-and-subscribers/ -
yes I have read that link several times – and it does not address my question at all – that being I thought that in some cases blogs that were set to private had the subscriber lists “pruned” a bit – can’t remember the exact circumstances – that the staff did remove some subscribers – I do remember thinking at the time that was a big loophole to the “no delete subscribers” thing –
I don’t normally help in the delete subscribers threads – but having known some people that had stalker problems (and having had a couple of near stalker issues myself) I have a certain sympathy for the OP
yes the stalker ex could subscribe with a new email (or feed reader) – and the OP would not know about it until the ex left a rude stalking comment on the blog – and at that point the OP would have the ability for a no contact court order.
but if the blog is not restarted until after the stalker has been removed that the stalker would not be notified of the new Posts –
I guess the OP could also maybe get a court order for removal of the stalker but that is a fair amount of work

@auxclass
In part this is what I was relying onHowever, in spite of any misleading dashboard messages, like the one below that appears after you publish a new post, new posts are not sent out to your previous subscriber list. http://wpcommaven.wordpress.com/2011/09/05/blog-privacy-and-subscribers/
Yes, Staff can delete subscribers from private blogs but as I read that I assumed the removal would be unnecessary.
@jasmandii
Despite your personal attack on my imagined “attitude” I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance.Will you please provide email addresses. The software will redact ie. HIDE the email addresses so only Staff can see them. After you do that subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.
-
@jasmandii – For your own security and peace of mind, you have really only two options here:
Option 1: Make your current site Private and invite only people you want to view the site. Any Followers you had while your site was Public will not be able to access the site nor will they receive updates of new posts (unless they subscribe after you’ve invited them to view your Private site).
If you have concerns about old Followers after your site is made Private, Staff have stated previously that they will remove old Followers from a Private site (not a Public one) for your peace of mind.
Option 2: Abandon your current site, create a new WPcom account using a different email address and make an entirely new Public site. That way your current username is not associated with the new site.
Personally, I’d go with Door #2.
-
Its not hard to imagine your attitude when your response to me was:
“Nothing I posted above is subject to change. ”
Why couldn’t you simply replied with this option you gave me now – I guess you only offer to really help after I supposedly “personally attacked you”
anyways …. my email is [removed from public forum] and here are the list of emails I would like to have removed:
[removed from public forum]

I don’t think this is concerning you – you are not the one with a problem nobody seems to care about – My comment to Timethief came out of my frustration for wordpress’s lack of response to the large number of its members who currently need help with this issue. Timethief seemed non-caring with her short comment to my plead and thats why I responded the way I did…I hope you never have any stalker issues, trust me they can cause a lot of damage.

@jasmandii
If you want your blog visibility http://jasmandii.wordpress.com/ to be private then it appears that you have to change your blog visibility setting because it is still Public at this time.To change blog visibility to Private go to Dashboard > Settings > Reading scroll to Site Visibility and choose option 3 http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
Your digital breadcrumb trail is not a small and hard to trace one. Note that Google and other search index all these threads almost instantly after we post into them and this thread now outranks all your photography site threads in the SERPs (search engine page results).
-
If you have a stalker and you want to start posting again, get a new username and a new blog. They likely have you on Google Alert so even if you remove them as a follower they’ll still be alerted you posted.

There is some private information posted above, so I will tag this for Staff intervention to have it removed.
-
The blog is visibility still PUBLIC. Asking Staff to remove followers which they will only do on a blog with PRIVATE visibility is a sham, and removal would be a futile act, as anyone can re-subscribe to any PUBLIC blog, or follow it in any feedreader.
-
Asking Staff to remove followers which they will only do on a blog with PRIVATE visibility is a sham,
TT-I have neither suggested or requested that. If you read my replies to the OP, they are in tandem with yours.
I am requesting that some private information that was posted in this thread be removed. Nothing more.
