I need help retrieving a lost domain

    Please help.

I had the site https://jamesyarnell.com/ registered with GoDaddy from 2007 to about 2019. I thought it was still registered with GoDaddy but apparently since December 2019 it’s now registered by Automatic Inc. Which GoDaddy tells me is WordPress. The site still works…and I don’t even know how since I’m not paying the domain renewal fees. Per https://www.whois.com/whois/jamesyarnell.com it’s set to expire Nov 12th this year. I mean I don’t even understand if I still own the domain…I don’t know how it changed from Godaddy (maybe I didn’t pay the renewal fee). I just want to make sure I actually own my domain and have it paid up and setup on auto-renewal going forward.

I’d call WordPress support but it just says to come to this site for live chat….which I don’t see that option. Anyone know how contact WordPress? Has anyone experienced something like this?

  • Hi there,

First, let me clarify that your domain was indeed transferred to WordPress.com back in December 2019, and it has been connected to your Bluehost site since then. Good news is that your domain has been automatically renewed every year, which is why your site is still up and running.

Regarding the domain ownership, it appears that the domain is registered under a different WordPress.com account than the one you’re currently contacting us from. To manage your domain and set up auto-renewal, you’ll need to log in to that other account.

If you’re not sure about the login credentials for the other account, don’t worry. You can simply fill out our Account Recovery form at https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery, and we’ll help you regain access to the account.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask. We’re here to help.
