I need help uploading a background.

  Hi,
  I am about to start a blog and was looking for a simple theme to which I could upload a background for free as I do realize some you have to pay.
  Ideally I want a simple theme which will let me upload a background free and have chosen SemPress but it does not work,I am not sure if the problem is on my side or is simply not permitted.
  Can anyone help me with this and if possible suggest some simple themes which will definitely let me upload a background of my choice free?

  In your theme Pilcrow the background > Appearance > Background is the edging it is not the background behind the text in posts and pages. To change that requires a custom design upgrade.
