I need help with a Catch 22!

  • Unknown's avatar

I started a blog on wordpress, using the free wordpress subdomain. I find I like wordpress much more than the host where I registered my domain originally, and want to use my domain name here. I followed the instructions to map the name to my blog, and it shows up in my dashboard as already being mapped. The problem is step 2, changing the dns servers with the host, Wix.com. They don’t allow mapping by changing name servers. I decided to move my hosting to WordPress, and sent them a request per their support instructions. They emailed a code to me with the information that I need to submit the code to the new host. I can’t find any way or anywhere to do this on wordpress!

WordPress has all kinds of info in support and forums about moving hosting FROM wordpress, but nothing about moving hosting TO WordPress. Mapping/changing dns servers is not an option at wix.

    Hi!

As @auxclass mentioned, unfortunately, we can’t accept incoming domain transfers, which is what Wix is trying to help you do. Since Wix will not let you edit your domain name servers, the best workaround would be to transfer your domain to another registrar (like Bluehost). Once your domain is setup there, you will be able to adjust the name servers to point to WordPress.com (you’ll have more control over domain records).

Here are some instructions on transferring your domain to popular services:

    https://my.bluehost.com/cgi/help/domains-transfer

    http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Transfer_your_domain_registration_to_DreamHost

    https://support.godaddy.com/help/article/1592/transferring-domain-names-to-godaddy

Let me know once you’ve transferred your domain to another registrar, and I’m happy to help you get it pointed to WordPress.com!
