i need help with blockquote
-
@shomoshor
I think these may be the kind of html instructions you are looking for to post on your blog for your readers to use when leaving comments.As atthe404 has pointed out posting them between backticks does not always work but I will try to do that here.
FORMATTING COMMENTS You can use html tags to format your comments as follows: For<strong> bold</strong>, use <strong>before the word(s) you want to appear in bold and then </strong> when you want to go back to regular text. For<em> italics</em>, use <em> before the words you want to appear in italics and then </em> when you want to go back to regular text. For blockquotes place <blockquote> in front of the quoted material and </blockquote> at the end. It’s better to blockquote quoted material than to bold letter it, because for some reason using the tags for bold is unpredictable when you’re bold lettering more than a paragraph. To create bullet-text list, use these characters:<ul> (before the entire list bullet-texted items), then<li> <ul> <li>before each bulleted line and</li> after each bulleted line. And when you’re done bulleting, use this tag:</ul> To create a link, begin with <a>name of link and end with </a> -
Here are some resources you can use to learn html and to validate and convert markup:

Not exactly TT. I said backticks do not work in the editors of our WP com installs. They are a beast peculiar to bbpress. But they work fine here. :)

do not work in the editors of our WP com installs
Interesting information that I will now retain.
Yes, I’m caught out. I did not read what you said carefully. :) -
thanks tt,
i didn’t need all those html help right now, though.
i found out about http://www.sniperoo.com.
registered users can add THEIR own widgets there!
i think i will give it a try.
if anyone has already done this, perhaps you will be kind enough to share your experience?thanks to EVERYONE for the overwhelming help. i feel blessed.

LOOK WHAT I FOUND!
tra-la-la-la-la!all you have to do is open an account and upload an image and fill in some boxes.
VOILA! you can generate your own badge! with links and all – showing prospective bloggers where they can get the badge!even though i would prefer bloggers to get the code fro my own blog, i don’t think it is a bad substutute.
(and of course, you have access to others’ badges if you want some!)
-
i just figured somethinng out. the theme andreas09 allows a lot of tags that you can use in comments. perhaps here i can embed codes. if anybody has done so ever, please share your knowledge.
thanks

@shomoshor
I provided you with all the html for formatting in comment boxes above which you can post on your blog for the convenience of your readers if you have a theme that does not supply it. Some themes provide the “allowed html” instruction either under or above comment boxes and, some don’t.I included bold lettering, italics, blockquotes, and bullets/unordered and ordered lists. Please take note of the link for this thread so your do not have to post again on these formatting issues.
You cannot have embeds or themes in comment boxes. To prevent security issues that arise from allowing folks to embed such “tat” wordpress software will strip anything like that out. More than two links in any comment box will result in a comment being scooped into the Akismet spam filter. The same applies to comment boxes as that which applies to posts and pages http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/23/can-i-add-flash-video-embed-other-media/
And as the only wordpress.com support issue in this thread has been resolved perhaps you would like to mark it as so.
-
“You cannot have embeds or themes in comment boxes.”
I made an error when writing above. This sentence should have read:
“All embeds and or images badges or other such “tat” placed in wordpress.com comment boxes will be stripped out by the programming.”
-
thanks tt,
for all the html, i was talking about xhtml, not html – when i was referring to andreas09.andreas09 commentbox allows “XHTML: You can use these tags: <b>
<cite>
<del datetime=""> <i> <q cite=""> <strike> "i don't know now much will be stripped out here, if you need to verify just check out a blog in andreas09 and look above the blank comment box. if you can't locate such a blog, please convert yours temporarily or temporarily open a test-blog.
i am sure that the HTML that you provided and XHTML that that theme allows are NOT the same - at least not all of them. the X makes a world of difference.
thanks for the alert though.
-
the example i provided in http://www.spampoison.com does have a scrollbar in the grey code box (i didn’t notice it first bcos it is deactivated).
but could we solve the problem without js if we can skip the scrollbar?
as in: http://www.wordofblog.net/search_result.php?any help will be much appreciated from anyone.
-
the correct address is:
http://www.wordofblog.net/search_result.phpthe ? also got hyperlinked in the above post
-
the problem is sort of solved. i did a feedback and here is mark’s response:
————————————————————————
“Hi,
I have added a textarea and encoded the code in that so it shows as you see – is that of any use?
Click the Code tab when editing.
To copy, click in the box, press ctrl-a and ctrl-c to highlight and copy the code.
I used: http://www.simplebits.com/cgi-bin/simplecode.pl
–Mark”
———————————————————–please note that following these instructions do work, that is, you can display your code without it being stripped. but it won’t appear in a designated box, as in,
http://www.wordofblog.net/search_result.php .hope this helps anybody interested.
THANKS to everybody for the awesome response again!
-happy blogging! -
i made some progress. i actually got the code to appear in a box!
http://shongjog.wordpress.com/tag/uncategorized/page/2/@nosysnoop,
you DON’T need js to get it done! it is done with a table! i wonder why nobody came up with that? perhaps everybody thought you can’t have any other html tags other than those that are availabe as icons.one thing, though…..the code that appears in the post mentioned is just gobbledygook. i have to figure out how to insert a code that actually works.
-
The reason why nobody suggested using a table is that they (like frames) are the root of all evil as far as web design is concerned.
The link that you provided above results in an error 404 page.
-
Tables aren’t evil as long as they are used for their intended purposes – organizing data in, well, tabular/spreadsheet fashion, such as record information (example: Name, address, telephone number, e-mail)
I agree with frames, though. Those need to go. Too much abuse.
-
What’s the code for tables if they’re html? :O I would start another blog as a place to put all the MySpace layouts I’m making but I don’t want to have to post all that code though unless I use the More tag.
-
Nosy this google search gives lots of info. Much easier to do that than try and describe it here.

@cornell,
awfully sorry for the link that didn’t work. it was one of the numerous test posts and perhaps i deleted it absent-mindedly. i have the “code” in a grey box here:
http://shongjog.wordpress.com/tag/test4blog/page/3/
and it works on my end at least!one thing though, i can’t get the actual code to appear. i get the picture (that the code is supposed to link to) appear again the box, instead of the code.
http://shongjog.wordpress.com/tag/test4blog/i will keep my fingers crossed.
AND THANKS to everybody for all the responses.
i think i will accept failure in this “project”.
if i succeed i will share the secret formula here of course.
