I need help with files and info on building a new website with existing customer

First, I would like to thank anyone for taking the time to read this. I know a little about webdesign but not so much nowadays. I had a guy that was doing my website work and now I have files and folders everywhere. Nothing is organized. It’s so crazy and the website runs so slow and slower on the backend that I’m just going to have a whole new site built for us.

Here is where the problem is. I’m using Fivver and the guy wants us to give him all the website files (This I understand) but then he wants a fullback up of our DB. To me this is a security risk, when I asked about it, and said well is it more or less a theme he said yes but “it will be theme but also optimization of whole site including plugin and lot more, current data- image, text etc”

So I guess I have two questions. If I did give him what he is asking for, how common is this?

Or is there a way I can pull just my Woocommers files and then re-upload them to the new site. As the shit really does run like crap and I would like to just start all over nice and clean.

    Thanks again for any support.

It’s normal for a developer to request both your website files and a full database backup when rebuilding or optimizing a WordPress site, because the files contain your themes, plugins, and media, while the database holds all of your products, orders, customers, settings, and configurations. Without the database, they can’t fully recreate or optimize your site. If security is a concern, you should first create your own backup and store it safely, then either provide the developer with that backup or set up a staging copy of your site for them to work on instead of the live one. This ensures they have everything they need while you stay in control of your data.
