I need help with my expired domain name

  • Unknown's avatar

robmotleybuilder.com has an ‘expired’ page that comes up and defaults to the wordpress – robmotleybuilder.wordpress.com. How do I get back my original .com address? I didn’t get an email reminding me of the expiration or letter. How do I proceed in getting my original .com address to work again?

Here’s what happens when a domain name expires: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/

So while you may be able to reclaim the domain, there will most likely be additional charges involved. I’ve tagged this for Staff follow up, please be patient while waiting for their reply.

    Hi there,

The domain robmotleybuilder.com and WordPress.com site robmotleybuilder.wordpress.com are owned by a different WordPress.com account, not your username rmotley80. You’ll need to log in to the WordPress.com account linked to that domain and renew it from your My Upgrades page there.

If you have trouble logging in or don’t remember the login details, please follow the steps in our Account Recovery guide for more help with that.

Hm, such a shame, too. Just yesterday the domain gift button was available, which I assume the OP would have been able to use.

Just for the record, @rachelmcr, how long is that button available after a domain expires?

And oddly the domain gift button is back today on robmotleybuilder.com

Now wondering if I don’t need to clean my glasses, or have my eyes examined…

You’ll see that option to renew a domain as a gift as long as the domain is in the grace period after it expires. rmotley80, if you do see that gift renewal button when you visit http://robmotleybuilder.com/ you can renew it for the other WordPress.com account (although you won’t have the option to manage the domain without logging in to the account that owns it).

Thanks for pointing that out, justjennifer! The grace period isn’t an exact amount of time (it’s about 10 days to two weeks) and I hadn’t seen that the gift renewal was still an option for this domain.

Thanks for the info, @rachelmcr. The domain gift button is gone again for me and interestingly this is just about the same time as I posted yesterday when I didn’t see it.
