I need some help, big time. Hope you guys can make that happen.

I am trying to start a blog that I can have a few pages besides scrolling blog, where I can ask for donations and in return show the reader what they get in return. I am sure that sounds like the easiest thing in the world. However I am legitimately a beginner. I hired a web site developer, SEO/Brand marketing/ Logo designer one stop shop. she took the deposit and delivered…. 0. I am 40 days behind. I tried to do this on my own on Shopify and was a complete nightmare. They are not the platform I need.
I need the ability to graphically alter a few images, I don’t have a set pic of a city for my background. I need to be able to post pics, blog daily, I need to prompt readers to donate, get a pop up or something to push to donation. I have a domain, I have pay pal, I have social ready to go. I need to get this up and going as it is a political site and I am losing time. That being said am I allowed to do political blog here? I didn’t see that option? I don’t mind paying if that will better serve me, but as I said Primewebdesigns stole the money. 1 last thing, do you process cards, take payments? What do I do if you don’t? suggestions welcome, I am with Shopify and can bounce no cost to me.
Thanks folks. I am 24/7 go. email me at (email visible only to moderators and staff)

  • Hi @outboard1129

Actually it looks like you’ve got a pretty good start. Did you want separate pages like your “About” page, or did you want something on the side of the blog posts, where your social buttons are right now?

I need the ability to graphically alter a few images, I don’t have a set pic of a city for my background.

Beyond basic image management (cropping for example) you will need an image editor for that. There are several apps you could use, but WordPress.com is not known for image editing.

need to be able to post pics, blog daily

No problem; do you have any specific questions about that? You can click the pencil icon to start a new post, or we have other methods (writing over a phone, sending the post in via email, etc.)

I need to prompt readers to donate, get a pop up or something to push to donation.

How about a widget? We can help with this too:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/get-paypal-button-code/

    I have a domain

If possible then I recommend adding plan. That will support the domain and will also give you direct support.

. 1 last thing, do you process cards, take payments? What do I do if you don’t?

We accept cards if you’re buying a service through us. If you need to accept people’s cards on your own site, you might continue using Shopify for that, or use the paypal button I mentioned.

Supernovia. Thank you for getting back to me. Threw in the towel.
However. I have some real questions. I am fine upgrading to biz account. I just need to learn more about ecomm, hosting and some obvious design issues. Handing me a doc, unfortunately has proven unaffective. Please.
I need to make a decision. As I have shopify, and go daddy. I was looking for one stop shopping.
Please let me know if you guys do have a #.
    Thanks

  • Hi @outboard1129, so:

I just need to learn more about ecomm, hosting and some obvious design issues.

If you’re planning on using WordPress for e-commerce (anything bigger than you could manage with a few PayPal buttons), you’re going to need to run your own copy of WordPress.org on another server, actually. We don’t have a solid e-commerce solution that is compatible with our servers at this point. And it sounds like you already have GoDaddy too. This would not be on our servers, so you would not use these forums. But folks in the WordPress.org community are helpful and friendly to other helpful and friendly community members.

Still, you would have a bit more of a learning curve, which translates to time or money. So you might consider learning the site management stuff here, where you have staff that can support you, then move everything over when you’re ready to add e-commerce.
