I am trying to provide the info requested by hostgator for a migration to host gator. The objective is simply so I can add affiliate links to my blog….
This process is fast becoming a huge frustration. -
Blue Host should know about WordPress.COM – no FTP access here, no control panel access – those instructions are for moving a WordPress.ORG software blog
For more on the difference: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
see below to move a blog

-
OK the ONLY reason for all of this is to be able to monitize the blog using affiliate links to amazon for example. Am i correct that Word Press does not allow affiliate links?
-
Hi there,
We do actually allow affiliate links on blogs hosted at WordPress.com. All affiliate links have to be relevant to the posts and text which they are appearing in (so no stuffing unrelated affiliate links indiscriminately), and we encourage all affiliate links to be text only as linking with banners or images starts crossing the line in to advertising, which we still do not allow.
Here is some additional information on affiliate linking:

Well at this point I would like to change the registrar and can’t get ‘er done. Here is a copy of the Domain Management page I see
Transfer DomainWe successfully resent the ICANN verification email to your email address on file.
An email has been sent to the Domain Registrant’s contact email address containing the Domain Transfer Code. If you don’t receive the email shortly, please check your spam folder.
Request Transfer CodeYou can transfer your domain to another domain registrar at any time by providing them with your domain name and transfer code.
Email Transfer Code
NOW IT SAYS AN EMAIL HAS BEEN SENT BUT I NEVER RECEIVE ONE. I HAVE CHECKED AND THE EMAIL INFORMATION IS CORRECT AND CURRENT. HELP….
-
Hi Wayne,
I have tried sending the ICANN email via one of our internal tools. Please let me know if you get the message. Also make sure you’re checking your spam folder and if your account runs through google apps that you check your social media folder.
Let me know!
-
I have checked EVERYWHERE. NOTHING… the email address IS and should be (email visible only to moderators and staff) and is current and up to date in the info on the WP DOMAIN MANAGEMENT PAGE.
-
Still no emails that I can find ANYWHERE.
FOR NOW, i AM SIMPLY GOING TO TRY TO GO WITH A NAME SERVER CHANGE. THE WP DOMAIN MANAGEMENT PAGE SAYS THIS…..
>>>>>
Success! The Name Servers for this domain have been updated. Please sit tight while these domain changes propagate around the world. (This can sometimes take up to 72 hours.)You must verify your email address through the ICANN verification email before you are able to update the name servers for your domain.
Resend ICANN Verification Email
Name servers point your domain to the right website host. When your domain uses the WordPress.com name servers, it points to WordPress.com. Most other hosting providers have their own name servers. If you set it to use your new host’s name servers, the domain will point to your new host.
Your domain must use WordPress.com name servers for your WordPress.com site to load, any WordPress.com email forwards you have active to function, and for the DNS Editor to be available.
Use WordPress.com name servers
Use the custom name servers listed below
((I have entered the name servers provided by Host Gator)) Remove
((I have entered the name servers provided by Host Gator)) Remove
___________________________________________
the above is confusing as the TOP LINE SAYS SUCCESS …
While the NEXT line says YOU MUST bla bla THROUGH ICANN and as I HAVE STATED, there are no emails showing up. I did not realize WP was this BAD and so HARD TO DEAL WITH. -
Hi,
You will need to verify the email address with ICANN before the name servers change will take effect. Can you please check both email addresses associated with your account (wayne@ and rhonda@)?
-
What is it going to take to get in order for some one to understand… I am going to try to say it again.
WE HAVE CHECKED. NEITHER OF US HAVE RECEIVED ANY EMAIL FROM ICANN. WE HAVE RECEIVED A NOREPLY FROM ONE OF YOUR ASSOCIATES AND AN ANONYMOUS AUTOMATIC EMAIL TO THE WAYNE@ BUT THAT IS IT.
I WAS JUST LOOKING AND IT HAS ONCE AGAIN INDICATED AN EMAIL HAS BEEN SENT TO THE EMAIL ADDRESS ON RECORD BUT NOTHING HAS SHOWN UP.
-
OK I’ll tell you about CONFUSING.
I go to the place where name servers is supposed to be changed and make those changes – YOUR system tells me it was successful but I need to wait 72 hours for changes to be made…..
THEN – a few hours later I check and that SAME SCREEN NOW SAYS >>>>
You must verify your email address through the ICANN verification email before you are able to update the name servers for your domain.AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN, If I ever get the email I will respond.
So Sorry about any confusion but your site is really good at creating some also.

Hi,
Could you try changing the email address listed under the Domain Contacts here?
https://turnwhentheroaddoes.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains
From that page, just click “Edit Domain” and change the address under the “Email” field. If possible, please change this to another provider (not courtney-scott). I’d like to see if we’ll have more success with another email address.
In the meantime, I’m reaching out to the registrar to ensure they’re sending the verification email.
Once we have verified the domain, we will be able to change the name servers and get the domain pointed to HostGator.
-
I will but I HATE GMAIL and hope to not have a long term (Host Gator) issue by doing this. I also would like to at some point get the registrar changed to Host Gator and will deffer to your opinion as to whether it would be best to do the name server change first then at a later date the registrar or go for it now…
-
-
I got the email at the changed address. NOW do you think it would be good to go ahead and do the intended registrar change now or later.?????
-
I HAVE INSTRUCTED HOST GATOR TO GET ‘ER DONE.
THANKS FOR FIGURING OUT THE PROBLEM.. I HAVE TO ASK WHY THE EMAIL ADDRESS WE HAVE AS OUR PRIMARY ONE CAUSES THE PROBLEM. SEEMS WHACKED TO ME! -
Hi Wayne,
It looks like you were able to successfully change the name servers on your domain to point to HostGator. You should also be able to transfer the domain following the instructions here:
The domain should continue to work during the transfer. Can you let me know if you’re having troubles transferring the domain?
-
LOOKS LIKE I WAS NOT ABLE TO CHANGE THE REGISTRAR DUE TO THIS: (SEE BELOW) I CHANGED THE INFO IN AN EFFORT TO CORRECT THE EMAIL ISSUE AND CAUSED THIS PROBLEM…

REGISTRAR TRANSFER DENIED
==========================================Dear Wayne Scott,
The transfer you requested has been declined because you opted-in to a transfer lock for 60 days when you agreed to the WordPress.com Change of Registrant policy.
For security reasons, when you change the registrant’s first name, last name, or organization name, you consent to a 60 day lock on transferring the domain name. Because you have provided your consent, Section 3(6) of the ICANN Policy on Transfer of Registration between Registrars permits us to decline your transfer request.
http://www.icann.org/en/resources/registrars/transfers/policy-01jun12.htm
If you feel the lock was initiated in error, you may contact (email visible only to moderators and staff) to request a review.
Regards,
Domain Services
