  My blog address has been set up incorrectly. I contacted worpress straight away when I saw the error and they conceded that the error was not mine but the system’s. I cannot accept derekbatemandotnet, (written as they made it appear). I typed derekbateman.net. I received an email confirming this was a mistake, yet it appears still not to have been rectified. I am deeply frustrated , as I cannot get going with my blog till it is sorted out. Can anyone tell me if there is an effective way of getting wordpress to fix a problem or is this whole system self help? Thank you.

  Hi there,

  I’m sorry for the misunderstanding.

  When you first created your blog at WordPress.com, you may have been offered to register a domain name to supersede the default blog naming convention which we have here which is [yourblogname].wordpress.com. If you selected this, and chose derekbateman.net our system automatically would have automatically set your blog name as being derekbatemandotnet.wordpress.com (because you do have to have a blog named something). The rest of the world would not have seen this blog name because they only see the derekbateman.net.

  Unfortunately it appears that there must have been an issue with contacting the domain registrar because your domain was not registered and you were not charged for this registration. That said, the domain is still available!

  You can log in to your account’s Dashboard and go to Store >> Domains and search for derekbateman.net. You’ll be asked to put through a purchase for the cost of the domain, but after you do so, no one will be able to see the blog name which was set.

  If you’d like to change the blog name as well, you can do so by following the instructions which are included right here:

  Please note that once you change your blog name you cannot change it back for any reason and you also cannot change it just to derekbateman.net. You will need to change it to a blog name which will be available at [blogname].wordpress.com.
