I need theme change help

I was using the Sela theme for my site for the past 8 years and had been very pleased with it, but last spring it began to not let me create more pages, and when I asked for help I was told by a WordPress worker that I probably needed to change to a new theme that was not retired.
Today I created four more child pages for the Banjos page, but I was no longer able to select the order in which they appeared, and the site was pushing them into a seemingly random order, some at the top and some partway down. I tried changing themes and now my site is completely useless until I can get some help, as all the child pages have disappeared.
My sites has hundreds of child pages under the pages on the main menu, and in Sela they were shown as you scrolled down the parent page. I have tried three newer themes, Twenty Sixteen, Twenty Twenty Four and Bark and none of them show any child pages. I am frustrated, as I rely on my website for my small business which is my livelihood. If anyone can help me make child pages visible again I would appreciate it very much. I don’t care what theme I have if it is one that supports child pages. Thank you very much.

Another odd thing is that my former home page which used to show a large image, testimonials, and a short paragraph, has disappeared from the pages list on my site. I can’t find it where it should be, with the first few pages that I created when I made the site in 2016.

To clarify, the Sela theme had child pages that were displayed on their parent page, in that case in two columns, but I don’t mind about that. On the Banjos page (for instance) the little bit of text that is there now was the same, but if you scrolled down all the child pages would appear, in whatever order they were given, with 1 at the top and higher numbers lower down. Today when I added four more child pages they were put in at seeming random, scattered among the top 10 or 12 child pages. The option to assign a number was no longer given to me. Now none of those pages, or any of the testimonials, are shown at all and I can’t figure out how to make them appear again. I will be grateful for any help.

I have not gotten any response here, nor to my direct request to WordPress.com support. It has been more than 48 hours, and I don’t think there will be a reply. 8 years ago when I set up my website I was able to get help when I needed it, and I haven’t needed it again till now. I will be leaving WordPress.com when my subscription runs out if not sooner.

Sela theme is retired https://wordpress.com/theme/sela and we can’t offer support for retired themes.
When you created new child pages, have you tried adding page order https://wordpress.com/support/pages/page-attributes/#page-order to those pages to change the order?
Also, if you are still looking for another theme to test, please check the Dara theme https://wordpress.com/theme/dara, which looks similar to the Sela theme.
