I need to cancel my purchased domain name

    I purchased a domain name described as “.co” by WordPress. When I received it, it was actually shown as “doctor.wordpress.com” which is clearly ridiculous and not what was sold. the instructions in support for cancelling the domain name are incorrect and I need to do so within 48 hours. Can anyone help please????

    You have been here less than an hour and domain name propagation takes up to 72 hours. What is the exact URL you wished to purchase please starting with http:// ?

    Thanks. I know. But I signed up with wordpress for a name, it isn’t what they said it would be so I went to cancel per their instructions and they were not possible to follow. Given the site says that you have to cancel within 48 hours that’s not helpful. And there is no way to contact WordPress as far as I can tell un;less you are on a premium service. So not sure how to proceed……

    Hi. Thank you so much for your help. I signed up for the URL “thehouseonthehill.co” on the main wordpress sign up page and it has come up as “thehouseonthehilldotco.wordpress.com” which is clearly ridiculous. So I would like to get rid of that as the sign up page was misleading.

    There is no domain mapping upgrade for thehouseonthehill.co. In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from, and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.

    If you did not register an underlying .wordpress.com URL to map from to the domain URL thehouseonthehill.co then the software supplied the thehouseonthehilldotco.wordpress.com to enable to proceed with mapping a domain.

    Please be patient while waiting for Staff assistance.

    thehouseonthehill.co – does not seem to have been registered – that might be why you can’t cancel it

    WAIT.

    You typed in thehouseonthehill.co in the box for the domain where you first went to sign up. That’s the problem. It’s a common one.

    Hi there,

    I’m sorry for the trouble you had setting up your site at thehouseonthehill.co. As timethief mentioned, your site was given a free WordPress.com address at thehouseonthehilldotco.wordpress.com.

    Unfortunately, the purchase you tried to make to register the domain thehouseonthehill.co didn’t go through, so you’ll need to register that domain again from the Domains page. We have more details about that process in our guide to Register a New Domain.

    Once that domain is registered, it will replace the free WordPress.com address on your site so that visitors only see your custom domain name.

    Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)
