I need to change the hosting on my wordpress.com blog to my godaddy hosting

I am moving the hosting of my domain from wordpress.com to godaddy. I found you support article and it reads: 1.Go to Store → Domains in your blog’s Dashboard. 2.Look for Domain Administration, select “Make Changes to DNS” and change the password. and there in lies the problem…there is no option for domain administration when I proceed in this manner. Instead I am directed to a page for my primary domain with the option to edit DNS. Is the domain administration option only available if you have wordpress.org upgrades or is there another way to perform this with wordpress.com?

  • Hi,

knuckleupnation.com is registered through GoDaddy. So you will need to access your DNS manager there to change the domain’s nameservers to point to your new host.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Hi josh,

I can access the dns manager at go daddy but how do I access the DNs for WordPress to send my site to my godaddy hosting? From my understanding I would have to change the WordPress name server to the godaddy name server but I don’t know where the options are on WordPress to do this. Also, from my understanding if I change the name servers I’m godaddy to the godaddy hosting I run the risk of losing everything I created on WordPress. Is that true?

  • If your domain name is registered with GoDaddy, you need to do the nameserver changing on the Godaddy side of things. There is nothing you need to do at WordPress.com to make this happen.

lso, from my understanding if I change the name servers I’m godaddy to the godaddy hosting I run the risk of losing everything I created on WordPress. Is that true?

This is not correct. Your content will still be available on http://knuckleupnation.wordpress.com/ Though if you still have knuckleupnation.com set as your primary domain, then the only want to access that content would be through your dashboard admin area. You can change your primary domain to be knuckleupnation.wordpress.com which would allow the public to see the content here. Or you can leave it as knuckleupnation.com which would send any users trying to visit your WordPress.com site to your new GoDaddy hosted site.

Let me know if that makes sense.

  • Right now you have your WordPress.com site set to use knuckleupnation.com as it’s domain (we call this the primary domain). If someone were to type in knuckleupnation.wordpress.com, we would show them knuckleupnation.com. If knuckleupnation.com is pointing to a non-WordPrss.com site, that is what they see. So if knuckleupnation.com is set as your primary domain, it will be impossible to get to your old site at knuckleupnation.wordpress.com.
