I need to change the Japanese font but only 1 is available.

    Hi,

    I’m making a bilingual website with the Foodica theme from WPZoom. Changing the font in English is simple but on the Japanese site, there is only 1 Japanese font. It happens to be really ugly. Is it possible to change this Japanese font?

    I’m losing my mind trying to do this. Any assistance would be very very welcome!

    Hi Simon,

    I can totally understand what you mean about how you feel about the look of Japanese fonts, as I’ve worked with them before as well. It seems like the Japanese version of your site is defaulting to the English version’s font Waiting for the Sunrise.

    Any font that isn’t suited for the Japanese language will result in that very bland generic styling you’re probably seeing now. In my experience, Noto Sans, Hiragino Gothic, and Meiryo have been the best web fonts for Japanese, and by best, I mean easy to use, fast to load, free, and accessible.

    So, I’d start out by finding a font plugin to that’ll allow you to load these fonts. But before I go any further, it’s worth mentioning that support for this kind of self-hosted WordPress site can be found at the WordPress.org Support Forums.

    Also, I’d recommend browsing through the plugin directory to see if anything will suit your needs. Most plugins will also have their own support threads be sure to check those out post your questions there.
