that would be great info but they do not provide an email address or phone number by which to contact them to pay the fee required to get the domain back…

@garymac, the domain can be renewed by logging into the Dashboard of the user account that purchased that domain, and going to the Store > My Upgrades tab.
In other words, since you do not own the upgrade under your account, you will not be able to access the renewal through your garycmac account.
It appears that although the domain has expired, it is in the grace period and can still be renewed for the regular price. Time is of the essence, however, as soon it will go into the redemption period which incurs an additional fee: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/
