How do I get the backup files for my blog? I need the php and sql files, so I can transfer to One.com

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Unlike self hosted sites that use the software from WordPress.org, WordPress.com sites don’t have user accessible php and sql files.

However, if you are looking to move to a self hosted WordPress site, this guide will step you through the process:

As we only support blogs hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new blog–including the importing of the file–must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:

If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com blog to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:

Please do let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear. The switch from .com to self hosted can be a little tricky at first, but once you’ve got it set up, you’ll be rolling along just fine.

Sorry for typing errors! Writing from my phone

  • We’ve got a “do it yourself” guide here:

It should give you the info you need to make the switch.

I just want to cancel my WordPress.com registration and go back to WordPress.org – can you tell me how to do this? I dont want the WordPress.com anymore… and this “do it yourself guide” doesn’t seem to explain how to do that.

I do not want to transfer my blog to SOMEONE ELSE. I want to keep my blog, but no longer on WordPress.com – i want to go back to how it was before on WordPress.org – when it was bookofness.wordpress.org – can I do this easily?

The page I linked to has a section on moving to WordPress.org as well. The link should have directly jumped you down the page to the relevant section. But if it doesn’t, just scroll down to the “Moving to WordPress.org” section.

While we use WordPress.com and WordPress.org to refer to the two different ways of setting up a site, they aren’t really similar. WordPress.org is just a location to download the WordPress software and find help documents and forums, there are no sites actually hosted on WordPress.org. So you wouldn’t have ever had a bookofness.wordpress.org URL.

Set up a new self-hosted WordPress.com site as instructed here:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress

Then export your WordPress.com site and import it as instructed here:

In the old blog, go to Tools → Export and download the XML (WXR) file to your computer.

In the new blog, go to Tools → Import → WordPress and upload the file you downloaded in step 1. Make sure that you choose the option to Download & import file attachments. This option will be available after you upload the file.

    (the above is from http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org)

I know it seems like a lot, but it’s a lot easier than it looks.
