Hi, is it possible to get a full offline version of my blog? I have done all my research for a university assignment on wordpress and it would be more reliable to give in a PDF version of it as a back up to the web version. please tell me it is possible all you have to do is…

I do not know if you can pdf it – I suspect that you would need to print every post through Acrobat Distiller or similar.
Easiest way to back it up, though, is to export it (manage -> export). This creates a xml file with everything (except the file uploads) contained in it.

The back up is in .xml by default….with that, you could try porting it through a program like Excel, and printing to .pdf from there. If you’re version of Office don’t have a “print to pdf” option…..get OpenOffice.org it’s free and has the “print to pdf” option as standard across the entire suite.

thanks guys but everybody bangs on about these stupid useless xml files that wordpress produces. Why dont the developers take a hint and create a proper export function!
I just opened my most recent backup xml and it is at least 2/3rds adverts for viagra and blow jobs, why the hell would i want to back up my spam?
I’m better off printing to pdf directly from the website i think.

    Rude much?

Really? Everyone? I can’t think of another thread where this has been brought up here in teh forums.

Why dont the developers take a hint and create a proper export function!

Have you suggested it to the developers via feedback or is this ‘hint’ that your talking about being sent via your mind?

why the hell would i want to back up my spam

Why the hell haven’t you deleted it? if you’re not deleteing it, all you’re doing is telling the system that you want to keep it.

    Bloodly hell….

Without getting too technical, XML files are pretty damn useful. They are a kinda “middle man” with your data, and human readable too……which is not the case with many competing formats, very customizable, and readable by a large number of other programs. It may be the reason why it was chosen as the back up format by WordPress…..it kinda suits the purpose nicely, as drmike says, by not deleting your spam, WordPress don’t know, because you’re not telling it…..and it will back it up too.
