There is no simple way to add mathematics (I mean equations, fractions, square roots) to a page on the Web. You can either create the math in some other software (Word, or LaTeX, etc), save it as an image and then embed the image on the page. http://en.support.wordpress.com/latex/

What I do is go to word. Once i’m in word, I type the symbol I need. Then, I copy and paste it into the draft. Hope this helps. ; )

What you suggest amounts to “save it as an image and then embed the image on the page” which I said above. -
Use the following syntax (found on the FAQs)
$latex [type latex code here] $
for example
$latex x^2$
