I need to re-map my domain from old WordPress site to new one

Hello,

I am urgently trying to re-map a domain I bought from Google. I need to un-map it from an old WordPress site I made back in January to a new WordPress site I’ve recently made. The domain I want to re-map is called: http://www.vampiresquid.co.uk

Something appears to be wrong with my old WordPress account and I am unable to make any changes to it. Also, despite it apparently being mapped to vampiresquid.co.uk, the URL itself is not currently working either.

The old WordPress site is:
http://vampiresquidcouk.wordpress.com

and my old account name is: @josephinerogers

The new WordPress site I wish to map http://www.vampiresquid.co.uk to is:
https://vampiresquid.blog/

and my new account name is: @vampiresquidblog

Please let me know if you can help and how long it might take for changes to take effect?

Hi Jo,

I have successfully removed the mapping for vampiresquid.co.uk. You can go ahead and map it to your other site by following these instructions:

https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

I’ve just tried entering my domain into the ‘Map a Domain’ section in my new account and it says:

‘This domain was recently in use by someone else and is not available to map yet. Please try again later or contact support.’

Do you know if it’s likely that I’ll be able to get it mapped today?

Hi again

Thank you for your help earlier.

I’m afraid I’m still not having any luck mapping vampiresquid.co.uk to my new WordPress site. I’m getting concerned about the amount of time that my site has been down and really need to get it up and running again today if possible.

Is there any way that you might be able to manually map it for me please?

Hi there,

I can try and map it, but I want to know if you plan to keep the domain vampiresquid.blog you have already registered and add vampiresquid.co.uk as well, or just keep vampiresquid.co.uk only.

Hi Jo,

I have manually added the mapping to the domain vampiresquid.co.uk to your site. Now you need to:

1. Change the domain’s nameservers by following these instructions:

https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#2-ask-your-domain-provider-to-update-your-dns-settings

2. Pay for that extra domain mapping upgrade by going to your purchases page:

https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/vampiresquid.blog/9281143

You have one week to complete the payment. Let me know if that works for you and feel free to send me any additional questions you may have.

One issue though – I’m now trying to set my custom domain as my primary domain but there is no option available for some reason. Is this because the custom domain has only just been added or am I doing something wrong?

I’m sorry to have to bother you with this again but I’m still having major problems.

My domain vampiresquid.co.uk is now taking me to my OLD WordPress account’s site again for some reason, and I still can’t change my primary domain on my new site. I really need to get this fixed as soon as possible. Please let me know what can be done.

What I need is for my new site, vampiresquid.blog, to now be vampiresquid.co.uk, and ideally for the old @josephinerogers account to be closed so it stops redirecting to that site instead.

Please let me know if you can help with this.

Hi there,

I’m sorry it took me so long to get back at you, but I was trying to find a solution to the mapping issue.

Since you don’t want your old site it would be easier to delete it and then properly move the domain mapping to your new site. To do so, I need you to confirm the site’s deletion.

If you want to keep your old site’s contents, let me know to show you how to take a backup.

Let me know how you wish me to proceed.

Yes, I’d like to confirm the deletion of my old site vampiresquidcouk.wordpress.com on my @josephinerogers account please.

I don’t need any of the contents on it so I’ll go without a backup.

Also, to make vampiresquid.co.uk my primary domain on my new site, would it perhaps be better if I didn’t keep the domain vampiresquid.blog as well after all?
