I need to recover a blog name that I accidentally deleted then changed the name.
-
I deleted a page, but then changed the blog name. My new desired blog name says it’s taken, but it is not. Will it “release” at some point so that I can use it?
I initially signed up for WordPress last year using the username splattersack and the blog name splattersack.wordpress.com. I am now starting a new business and logged in today for the first time since I set it up last year. Upon seeing the account info, I tried changing it to the username “timeforajourney” and went to delete the blog splattersack.wordpress.com. Upon deleting the original blog, I found a way to change the address and found it odd that it was still showing in my profile. I proceeded to do so and now the domain timeforajourney.wordpress.com is “taken” when I try to register it.
I believe the system was hung up in replication, and didn’t process the blog deletion before allowing me to change the name. Is this new name now gone forever? Can it be recovered? I know they will not allow other users to register a formerly used blog, but can the original user reuse it?
Please advise…

Before: splattersack.wordpress.com
After: timeforajourney.wordpress.comNow both show as deleted by the author, but the “after” one never actually existed.

Did you receive and confirm deletion emails for both blogs? I’ll flag this for staff attention, but don’t get your hopes up.
Note: I hate the Change URL procedure because issues like this are all too common. We get at least one person an hour wanting to activate the old URL and they can’t. And for businesses, I always recommend teh Custom Domain upgrade anyway, where the underlying whatever.wordpress.com URL is almost irrelevant.
-
I only received a confirmation for the first one only.
As for the custom domain, I have already secure TimeforaJourney.com and will be transferring it over if I decide to go with WordPress. I am playing with the features of WordPress, Blogger, Weebly, and Wix (so far). If it’s this much of a hassle to make reversions(even by my own error) , I’m not sure I’ll go with WordPress.
thank you for your help so far!

With WP.com as long as you remember deletions and changes to URLs and usernames are permanent and irreversible you’ll be fine.

The other “gotcha” – never use the “Quick Post” (that is the Post link from the gray top Nav. bar)
Use the regular Post method – Dashboard >> Posts >> Add New
If you want to paste from Word or another Word-processing program use these instructions
Or paste into the plain Text Box with the “T” on it to the left of the “W”
Also set
Dashboard >> Settings >> Writing >> WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
Remember to save changes – at the bottom of the page
If you do much editing it is possible to delete part of the formatting commands that may mess up the formatting on a Post or Page
I like it here

Hi timeforajourney,
It looks like there may have been a glitch in the system when your new blog at timeforajourney.wordpress.com was created. I am checking with our team to see what might have happened and will let you know what I find out!
-
I believe it was a glitch as well. I don’t think it was finished replicating the deletion across all servers, which would’ve disabled the ability to change the blog name. Anything you can do is appreciated!

Good news! We were able to recover your renamed site, and it is now active on your account. You can access your blog here: http://timeforajourney.wordpress.com/
The old site address, splattersack.wordpress.com, is still deleted.
Please let me know if I can help with anything else. :)
