I need to remove a site from my wordpress.com account

  • Unknown's avatar

On my wordpress.com account I have two blogs registered. I mistakenly registered my live backup site, yottabytes.zettabytes.org, and I believe it is causing issue with getting posts published to the reader site. I have tried on numerous occasions using both the web client and wordpress.com thick client to remove the yottabytes site, but it just says I need to transfer ownership and doesn’t give me that option to completely delete the site from the app.

Would you please remove yottabytes.zettabytes.org from my reader list and just leave my primary site, zettabytes.org, there please.

I believe it’s the cause of much confusion as well as holding up and causing cross posting issues.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Good day @rljpdx 👋

Sorry to hear you may have a configuration issue.

According to our Site Profiler (https://wordpress.com/site-profiler/yottabytes.zettabytes.org) the Yottabytes subdomain is on self-hosted WordPress!

Self-Hosted .Org Support Forums are available here: https://wordpress.org/support/welcome/

    🔗More info: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

Now if you do have another domain or a *.wordpress.com hosted site that you need to delete, please view the support guide here: https://wordpress.com/support/delete-site/

You also mentioned Reader, a support guide is located here: https://wordpress.com/support/reader/

If you need to unsubscribe from a site on Reader: this guide shows you how: https://wordpress.com/support/unsubscribe-from-a-wordpress-com-blog/#unsubscribe-from-the-wordpress-com-reader

If I misunderstood your original ask, please clarify in a reply.

Most of that information is out of date.

The “Settings” section which the guide describes and shows as above “Leave Site” is not an option available to me when I login to the WordPress.Com reader site and manage domains/subscriptions.

Both of my blogs are self hosted, meaning they are Ubuntu systems I have on the internet and manage/administrate on my own.

So, I’m unable to delete the yottabytes.zettabytes.org regardless of what I do and I believe it’s interfering with articles I publish making it to the reader for the main site, zettabytes.org.

I guess I got lucky the other day when one of my articles made it to the reader site immediately but since then I have published two articles in the last two days which have not made it to the reader site.

A couple of weeks ago I have published 5 articles which never made it to the reader site but then a week later all 5 articles showed up at once, but missing the intro/top picture.

Is there any current information around that will help me remove my back self hosted site from the wordpress reader?

I take it back, not all of information is outdated. I’m going through each of the options and have found some information which is helping me with other issues I have had.

I think some of the issues I have is in regards to having multiple accounts on both the wordpress.com and wordpress.org sites. This is confusion built up over the years either due to being unable to recover password for original accounts, or wordpress.com assigning different names to my wordpress.com login account which login to the same account. I realize that may sound confusing but it’s an issue I’ve continued to deal with.

Maybe I should delete all my accounts from all WordPress.com and wordpress.org sites and start over, but I’m pretty sure that will wipe out all my history and hundred or subscribers and will force me to start afresh.

The main thing I want is when I publish an article, for it to show up on the reader site and that is the thing that is not currently happening.

Oh my goodness, I think someone did something. The yottabytes site is now no longer in my list of sites in the WordPress. I hope that might solve my publishing issues making it to the read site. I will republish a couple articles they never made it to the read and find out.

I realize sometimes you guys just automagically fix things without necessarily following up in these forum posts. I don’t mind. ;) The yottabytes site is now gone from the reader and no longer need to focus on that.

    Thank YOU!

Lets mark this one as resolved. If the published posts continue to not appear in the reader I’ll follow up with a new post in a week or so. Let’s close this one out. I wanted the yottabytes site gone from the sites list in the wordpress.com reader app and that’s been accomplished.

    Thanks

I’m just a volenteer with no backend access.

Maybe a WP Staff Angel stopped by – Glad things are working.

If you are still having issues, reply. Otherwise this thread may be closed. Feel free to start a new one and link this one :)

    Take Care!

Thanks for your help Taiwan as I received some information I previously didn’t know and it might have been the catalyst for my other site being removed. Thanks for all your help.
