I need to replace an uploaded PDF on my blog, I want all the old links to point to the new pdf. Hel

  Have a PDF that I uploaded to my media several months ago, and I’ve linked to it in a few e-mails and other posts as well as Facebook. I need to change some info on the PDF and want all the links I’ve put up so far to either point to the new content, or to be dead. I deleted the PDF that had the errors (thinking that would kill the links), and tried uploading the new one (with the same title), but all the links still point to the old pdf with the errors, and it still opens….

  Can you let me know the old URL? It should lead to a 404 (item deleted) page after 24-48 hours.

  The bad news is that there isn’t a way to upload another PDF file with the same URL. So, for example, if you originally uploaded something like this:

  Click to access myform.pdf

  Then, you deleted that file and tried to re-upload a PDF titled myform.pdf in February of 2015, we would automatically add a “1” like this:

  Click to access myform1.pdf

  Therefore, all links you’ve put into posts and pages would stop working correctly.

  The main solution to this would be to link to a page on your site instead. So, for example, I would create a page titled “My Form” and give it the URL example.com/my-form. Then, I would link to that page around my site. On that particular page, I would embed the link to the PDF. That way, I could change the PDF but still always point individuals to example.com/my-form. Would that work for what you’re looking for?

  Ah thank you. Sounds like I need to let the internet figure out the page is gone? Also makes sense about the new page.

  Next time I’ll load the PDF’s as a page, and link as you suggest.
