I need to reset my password to a password I want
-
I have a pattern that I use to track all of my passwords on all of my sites, that allows me to alter all of my passwords for all my sites, and still not be unable to remember them.
I apparently mistyped my WordPress password recently, and thought it hadn’t been changed with all the others. So I changed it. Or tried to. Password / old keyboard / sticky keys / caps lock or some other similar shenanigans apparently happened.
I was eventually able to get access and make a new password, but it’s the *wrong* password. I wasn’t allowed to change the password to the correct password, because apparently I had changed the password to the correct password before. So, now, WordPress has the wrong password.
Please explain how I can force the correct password onto my account, ignoring the automated complaints about re-using old passwords.
Thanks!

Hi,
Visit the Passwords support page, and follow the directions provided for the various ways obtaining a new password. The simplest methods may be the top two:
1. Use the Lost Password form
2. Follow the directions in the “Reset Your Password Using Your Primary Email Address” section of the support page. -
ignoring the automated complaints about re-using old passwords.
Unless the staff have the ability to flush your password history you are probably stuck

Musicdoc1 I have a new password. It’s not the password I want. WordPress is preventing me from changing my password to what I want it to be. I need to remove the password history, or have it made so that old passwords can be used again.
Auxclass, I hope they can help me, thank you for understanding what I was asking for!

*bump*
I think someone believes this question has been answered, but it hasn’t. Can my password history be erased, or bypassed, to allow me to have the password I want?

this thread is still flagged for the staff – sometimes it take a while for them to answer in the forum – you have not been forgotten

Hi, let me make sure I understand: At some point you had the correct password, but changed it. Now you want to change it back but the system won’t let you because that password had already been used? And if you keep the new password it won’t fit within your system for remembering them. Let me know whether that is right.
If that is true, I don’t know of an easy way to let you re-use an old password, but I will see what I can find for you.
One thing you’ll want to bear in mind, though: if you’re using an easy pattern for remembering passwords, someone might be able crack it if they saw your password for another service. You might consider using a password manager instead.

Yes, Supernova, that is correct. I would appreciate it if you can find a way for me to put the correct password back in place.
I use the safest password manager possible – the one in my head. I do not trust password manager systems. When you use a password manager, a single theft means all your passwords are compromised.

I don’t think we can remove items from your password history, but I’ll see what we can find out. Also, I don’t know what method or pattern you’re using to select passwords, but I can say if it’s a pattern a computer could likely break it.

Thank you, I appreciate your efforts.
Yes, I understand strong passwords. I work in IT.
Any password can be broken. Including the one you use to protect your password manager. I don’t like single points of failure.
