    Here’s the WordPress.com Contact page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

    Here’s the WordPress.com support email: support[at] wordpress.com

And if you let us know what you’re problem is, we might be able to help you here on the Forum and we can get you in contact with a WP.com Happiness Engineer here on the forums.

As soon as I signed up it said something about $18 for the url/blog name. I don’t get it.

Plus, I have other questions as I may try to run a school newspaper from the blog, and is easier and quicker to explain over the phone rather than write a tome. … Thanks.

In order to have a [blogname].wordpress.com blog you don’t have to pay anything. If you want a [blogname].com address, you’ll have to pay for the domain. You can find out more about this here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

Unfortunately WordPress.com doesn’t have a support phone number. You can either post a question here and request staff support or you can email WordPress.com at this email address: support[at]wordpress.com

Let us know if you have any more questions.

My blog name came up http://regispridepost.wordpress.com, and then something about $18 for the name… so I am confused, because, to me that LOOKS like a wordpress.com blog and NOT a blogname (without wordpress, etc.)

Say I want to cancel this blog that I just set up. What’s the best way to do that?

    Thanks for your help.

newspapers are fine, there are some great themes designed for news

However if you want to sell Ad space on the blog / web site, that is against the Terms of Service

Please do not cancel / delete /regispridepost.wordpress.com/ – that takes away all your good options

there are about 220 or so themes if you don’t like that one, you can also change the Title & tagline at: Dashboard >> Settings >> General

auxclass — no ads at this point, is why I thought WordPress would do. What are the news themes? And can you or someone please clarify if this is a paid post, since I’m using wordpress — and not just a URL.com? If so, I do need to cancel. Thank you.

The $ 18.- / year is for a custom domain name registration & mapping – as noted above – NOT needed at all – if you did pay anything you can get a refund if you want – 48 hours on the name – 30 days on the mapping

The upgrades seem to be a bit in your face to a new person here – just don’t give WordPress.COM your credit card info until someone in the forum blesses your spending the money – OK?

Also, this conversation would be 30 min shorter (I’m guessing) if it were on the phone as Q&A and not an email/forum thread. So, not very conducive for the kind of customer service I’m used to and/or would like. Not that you haven’t been helpful, you have. I appreciate it.

This is a peer support forum where Volunteers and Staff work cooperatively to deliver WordPress.com support. There is no phone support here and we Volunteers do not provide support by email. Volunteers answer the majority of questions posted into forum threads and Staff monitor. When Volunteers cannot provide the required support we flag threads for Staff attention.

We are happy to answer your WordPress.COM questions right here in this thread which is without doubt faster than emailing Staff. In fact there’s rarely ever a question posted here that has not already been asked and answered.

See here for details of all 3 plans http://store.wordpress.com/bundles/
All support docs are at this link http://support.wordpress.com
    Example: http://en.support.wordpress.com/category/upgrades/

Note that none of the plans allow you to run advertising or to upload your own themes or plugins. WordPress.com blogs cannot be equipped for eCommerce transactions. If you need a site that requires a custom theme or plugins — e.g., if you want to be able to sell things directly from your site, or if you want to install discussion forums — a self-hosted WordPress site might be right for you.

Thanks, timethief, for the primer. Without a doubt the thread is faster than emailing, but for a writer focused on deadline (yes, I totally get the irony that I am WRITING this correspondence rather than speaking it) the thread lobby is actually even more of a distraction than having a telephone conversation and being done with it, so I can actually go ahead and do the thing that is meant to be done (such as setting up a blog/newspaper forum for my students or wrapping up a story without having to come back to the thread for answers — if you know what I mean. Just a personal observation.)

Had you ask your questions up front you would have gotten the answers up front without us trying to guess what you needed, much quicker

aux — excellent point. Thank you.
