I and many of my colleagues at my elementary school have class blogs using wordpress.com. Since the beginning of last week (Septbember 13th) none of us have been able to edit our pages. What are we doing wrong. We have all been following the usual procedure but with no success. When we try to edit the previous days work, the page comes up blank and we can not type in any new text.
-
Others know more than I on this – but I have seen several cases in the forum of blogs that could not be reached because the IT people had the firewall set to block WordPress.COM blogs – contact the IT department and see if they have a block on WordPress.COM and can they white list WordPress.COM – I have also flagged this for staff attention as there is another domain name that is used for related files (wp,com) I think that also needs to be white listed

@mrkobrien: hi there, I am sorry you and your colleagues have not been able to access your WordPress.com blogs. What @auxclass suggested about reaching out to your IT department is a good first step (particularly, if you are able to open and edit the same blog from a home computer but not when on the school network). Please let me know how that goes and if your IT department comes back with additional information/questions.

I very sorry to say that if were using the “Add New” on the main page for wordpress.com here http://wordpress.com/#!/post/ then the draft is lost and cannot be recovered. That link is only for creating “Asides”. They have no titles, can’t have categories assigned to them. When edited the draft content is gone because the auto-save does not work on them.
Aside – These are brief snippets of text that aren’t quite whole blog posts. Useful for quick thoughts and anecdotes http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-formats/
But if you created the post on your own dashboard there may be a happy ending. http://mrkobrien.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php
Go to Posts > All Posts, hover over the title of the post, click Edit and check the Post Revisions module for previous saved versions of the post.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/If you’re not seeing the Revisions module while on the editor screen, click Screen Options (top right corner of your Admin page) http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ to activate it. Then select the post and page modules to include them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules Then you ought to be able to go here > Dashboard > All Posts > Posts and locate the post and recover it from post revisions.
If you cannot locate the post for locating and restoring a post revision, and it’s not in your Trash folder http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/ then you will not be able to recover it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash
Advice:
1.Create posts and pages on your own blog’s dashboard.2. When you start a new post, add the title, set it to private and then publish it. When you are done with the post edit it to update it and set it back to publish.
3. The other choice is to get and use an offline blog client such as Windows Live Writer (Windows) or Ecto (Mac) and then everything is saved on your computer and when you are done with the post, you actually publish it directly from the blog client software. See here for offline blog editors so you don’t have to go through this again http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc

The author on my blog also has this problem. She has a post draft saved that she cannot see. The post shows a blank and cannot be clicked on in any way, and the ‘kitchen sink’ is missing. The odd thing is that i can see the draft just fine, but she needs to edit her own posts.

I am the author thegiddygoat is on about. I saved a post early this morning and have been unable to update at all it as it will not show. It’s just blank and cannot be clicked on. I have tried clearing browser cache etc. The post draft is definitely still there because giddy can see it, it’s just blank for me. I always post from my dashboard and i’m using Firefox.

You could try confirming Flash is updated http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ and if required installing the latest version of Flash http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ You could also try another browser http://browsehappy.com
-
Flash is updated and the odd thing is that Giddy is using the same browser, yet he can see the post. I’ll try Chrome though as i have that also on my net book.

Than goodness for that. I’m leaving the flagging for Staff up as clearly something if not working properly for @mrkobrien and his students.

I never thought about changing browser as we’re both using the same one and i could see the post. How odd! Perhaps we’re both using different versions of Firefox.

Hey, everybody!
I found something that can help solve this problem.
I clicked to “inspect element” in the text box, and saw that the text is hidden.I turned off the options “hidden” and “white color”. Now I can see the text in the new post! But the HTML toolbox still does not appear.
I made a video showing all the steps! Please look here!
This problem remains for more than a month for me.

Thanks for much for sharing that. I flagged this thread so Staff will know what worked for you.

Do you notice any improvement if you uncheck the automatic proofread options at Users -> Personal Settings? Or, are they already unchecked?

I did see the video, but at no point did you show enabling or disabling browser extensions. Are you confirming that all browser extensions were disabled when you recorded that video?
