i need to talk/chat/e-mail with someone from wordpress.com

but there seems to be no way to do that any more….why not?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Users with a purchased upgrade can access livechat and email here:

    https://wordpress.com/help/contact

Users without purchased upgrades can find limited staff help here in the forums. But it is generally limited to issues that require staff assistance to solve (payment problems, upgrade, bugs, and so on).

Yep, well we don’t have a “purchased upgrade” I’m afraid. Mind you if we could obtain access to the second of our wordpress.com wp websites then perhaps we might purchase an upgrade one day. But without communication that will be impossible.

Staff may be able to help if you state the address of the site you can’t reach. Have you lost/forgotten the password?

    Change or Reset Your Password

yep – we’ve recovered forgotten password for hedgerowfoundation.wordpress.com but we can’t seem to recover similarly forgotten password for hedgerowfund.wordpress.com

  • Your best bet it to try any old or rarely used email addresses in the password recovery tool:

We know the username that was and still appears to be used to administer the website and have asked for a recovery/change e-mail to be sent and we have a catch-all e-mail address on our domain so can only conclude that someone used a personal, or at least non-corporate e-mail address to administer the website at some point for convenience perhaps and failed to alter the registered e-mail address back to one of ours when they stopped administering the website. (It’s 2-3 years since we updated the site, sadly, and we really ought to update it now.)
So, we’re stuck. We don’t have any e-mails dating back to when we first set the site up (in about 2010 I guess) or any invoice details (because it’s only the free platform and we’ve never had a need for an “upgrade”). The contact details shown on the current site are correct and refer to an e-mail address that would come to our catch-all address if a password reset e-mail was sent, but the staff member listed left us in 2013. We would like to update the content and convert the site to run off our own domains. At the moment the website shows 2-3 year out of date information and people will just be confused if we put the correct up-to-date information up on a new website on our own domain.

  • I’m afraid that there is nothing we can do for you in this instance. You simply cannot gain control of a site without proof to confirm that it is yours.

I would encourage you to try and connect with the old staff member and see if they can help you out.

Hmmmmm. I think you underestimate what you could do.
For instance, perhaps, sending a password reset e-mail to the e-mail address listed and displayed as the contact on the website. I can’t think of anything simpler or more secure.

  • I can email the address listed for the account owner. But if the password reset tool did not send email that you can receive, it seems unlikely that you would receive a manually sent email to the same address.

But I’m happy to give it a try.

  • Email sent. Let me know if you receive it.

  • Unknown's avatar

    OK – well please do!
Would it also be possible for you to let me know if the e-mail address that you are sending it to is that listed on the website’s contact page, or indeed any other that corresponds to our domain name (ie (email visible only to moderators and staff))?
    Thanks

    No, sadly not.
And not in our spam filters either.

    Any other thoughts?

  • I am sending you an email to the address associated with your WordPress.com account. Please let me know if you do not receive it.
