I need to transfer my domain to a different registrar and get a refund on hosting. Cannot find support
-
I need to transfer my domain back to my original registrar, but I can’t find the domain on my account to unlock it so that it can be transferred.
I was gifted wordpress.com hosting and did not realize it was not wordpress self hosted, which is what I want. I need a refund on the hosting as well.
I cannot find a way to contact support to get these issues resolved. Please help!

Hello there,
Many thanks for reaching out.
Are you able to confirm the URL of the website that you need assistance with please?
-
Do you mean: https://angelataylorauthor.wordpress.com ? (The site isn’t active.) My domain is angelataylorauthor.com, but it doesn’t show up under my site domains for some reason, which is one of the issues.
I do need to transfer my domain back to my original registrar, but I can’t find the domain on my account to unlock it so that it can be transferred.
I was gifted wordpress.com hosting and did not realize it was not wordpress self hosted, which is what I want. I need a refund on the hosting as well. Please advise how to do that.
Thank you.

That domain belongs to a different account here, not the one you’re currently logged in under.
If you do not recall the password for the correct account, we have some options for you at https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/

Okay, somehow it registered under my other email. I’m logged into the other one and it does show the domain. It also says that it is locked until 2/22/21. Is there a way to transfer it before then? And is there a way to get a refund?
-
It just sent a link to my email and that’s how I was able to login. Not sure how it registered me for two accounts, but apparently it did. Do you need some info from the account the domain is showing under?

Hi there,
Okay, somehow it registered under my other email.
Thanks for confirming ownership!

It’s been past the 5 day grace period since you have moved the domain to WordPress.com (12/24/21), so canceling the domain isn’t recommended. Due to ICANN transfer policy, you will not be able to transfer the domain over to a different registrar for 60 days, or 2/22/22. If you are wanting to use the domain with your site hosted elsewhere, you can always point the domain’s nameservers over to your host from WordPress.com until 60 days lock passes (where you can transfer the domain back to the original registrar).

And is there a way to get a refund?
I can grant you a refund on the Premium Plan minus the cost of the domain ($78) assuming you do not want to cancel the domain. Please let us know how you would like to proceed and we’ll be happy to help. Thanks!

I’d like it clarified that I retain ownership and access to my domain name, angelataylorauthor.com, if I cancel my hosting account. Please acknowledge this in writing. Thank you.

That is correct. If you only cancel your hosting plan and keep the domain, then you’ll be able to point it to a different host and after the 60-day lock transfer it away.

Hi there,
You can access your domain, as well as change name servers/DNS here: https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/angelataylorauthor.com/edit/angelataylorauthorcom.wordpress.com#
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Will I still be able to access that if I stop the hosting?
Also, I received this notice: “You are receiving this message because you recently registered or changed the contact information for one or more of the following domains: angelataylorauthor.com.”
Did you make that change? My domain is now showing up under my free account, linked to my gmail email. It was originally showing up under the paid account with a yahoo email. Did you move it over?
Also, it says: “Please complete the verification or your domain will stop working in 10 days.” Do I need to do that? I’m worried to do anything to mess up the domain.
Please advise on if I’ll be able to access my domain and name servers if the hosting is cancelled, and also please address the email & account location change for the domain question. Thank you!

Hi there,

Technically you can’t stop your hosting, as hosting is provided for free on WordPress.com. But if you cancel your Premium plan without also cancelling the domain, you’ll still have access to all the domain settings you have now.
We haven’t made any changes, no. In fact, we can’t – only you have the ability to make changes to the domain’s contact info, or to which account owns the domain.
You transferred the domain to us as the
penguincroissantelektra49190username, associated with your Yahoo email address, and the domain is still under this account. But when you transferred the domain, you provided a Gmail address for the domain contact information, so some domain-related emails will get sent to that address. That email happens to be associated with your other WordPress.com username, but that’s purely coincidental. The domain has no connection at all to that other account.
Also, it says: “Please complete the verification or your domain will stop working in 10 days.” Do I need to do that? I’m worried to do anything to mess up the domain.
Please click the verification link in that email, yes. When you register or transfer a domain, you’re required to provide valid contact information. As your domain registrar, we are required by ICANN regulations to verify that contact information, and to suspend the domain if we don’t receive that verification within a specific period of time.
Once you click the link to verify the email, those requirements are satisfied, and your domain should work normally from that point.
I see you’ve already pointed your domain to another host. Please confirm if we must cancel the premium plan for you – you’re already a couple days past the refund period, but we can still process a late refund for you manually from our end.
-
Yes, please cancel the premium plan and issue a refund.
Do NOT cancel the domain. I want to keep that.
Also, I did not assign the username of penguincroissantelektra49190, nor did I point my domain to another host. Does someone else have access to my domain? Can you verify? I need to have sole access. If someone else has access, I need your help to get it back.
-
I’ve cancelled your Premium Plan and refunded $78. You should receive the full refund in about 10 business days, depending on your bank’s processing times.
Also, I did not assign the username of penguincroissantelektra49190
That’s the username that was created when you registered this account three weeks ago. If you did not specify the username you wanted during signup, our system would have generated one automatically.
nor did I point my domain to another host.
Your domain is pointed to Namecheap.com. There hasn’t been any changes to your domain’s DNS since you transferred it to us, so that’s the DNS records it had at the time you did the transfer.
