I need your help in choosing a theme.
-
Hi – I’m used to putting the image in manually when I write a post – can you explain the difference??
-
Yes, featured images is an option to attach an image to a post. Then a theme can use those images in different ways. For example, some themes use the featured image to put a thumbnail image next to the post on the home page or in a slider feature.
Specific to the Magazine theme, if you check the “Include the Featured Image” option, it will make it so the featured image is displayed next to posts on any blog listings page, including archive, author, blog, category, search, and tag pages. If you like that option and you don’t want to have to embed images, leave that checked. If you don’t like that option and you want to embed images instead, uncheck it. One benefit to embedding images is that they show up in feed readers and subscriptions and posts themselves, and the downside is you don’t get featured images automatically on blog listing pages like category pages.

THank you for explaining that.
I like the idea of the ‘Include the Featured Image’ option – but if I do that, when I write a blog, do I put the image into the blog post as usual?? How does it work?? -
Can you please tell me the exact colour of the pink used in the Magazien theme, so I can match it in my header? Also, how do I get just a nice plain background for the site, that goes with the signature pink?
Also, the fonts of the top of these news items is different to the other three – how can I rectify this?

Thanks for all your help.

To insert a featured image into one of your posts, click on the “Set featured image” link in the Feature Image module on your Edit/Add New Post page. The Featured Image module should appear on right-hand side of your screen, below your Tags and Revisions modules.

The hex color code for the pink in Magazine is #C62765.
Regarding the background color, do you want one solid background? Or do you want to modify the grey color that appears in the main part of your site? If you’d like to change just the grey, you can switch your background color by going to your Dashboard -> Appearance -> Background page.
As for your fonts, I’m afraid all of your post titles and lower-menu items appear to be in the same font for me. Can you let me know where you’re seeing a discrepancy in the fonts?
-
It is very difficult to choose a colour as it just shows a colour wheel without demonstrating the actual colours – is there an easy way I can select a lovely pale pink that contrasts perfectly with this Magazine pink?
-
You might use a color website like http://www.visibone.com/colorlab/ or http://www.colourlovers.com/

So now I am confused…
I want to have a featured image at the top of each post as I like the idea of images showing up on summary pages. I have inserted a featured image into the top of my Gaia House entry, however, and checked the ‘include featured image’ box in my theme settings, but nothing is appearing – why is this? I want to have one featured image at the top of each post, and imbed other images myself…
Can you also tell me how I set the ‘slider’ image – how does that work? Does this mean that at the top of each post I can have a portfolio of sliding images?
Also… How do I remove the ‘Filed Under’ list at the end of each post? I don’t want people to see this.
And… how do I remove the links at the end of each post to other posts? These are not relevant.
THANK YOU.
-
Ps I can post these as another question under MAGAZINE THEME but can you remind me how I do that and send me a link.
-
I have put a Facebook widget into my ‘home bottom’ page but it is not displaying on the home page – why is this?
Also, how do I just get a subtle F or T for facebook and twitter? -
When I take a look at your “Gaia House” entry, everything appears to be displaying correctly with the featured image. If it’s not displaying for you, would you be able to send a screenshot of what you seen instead?
http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/Regarding the “Slider” image, I’m afraid the Magazine theme does not support that. You can, however, add a “Slideshow” to each of your posts by following the instructions available here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/To remove “Filed Under,” you would need to modify your site’s CSS with the Custom Design upgrade:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/Lastly, would you like to turn off the “Recommended Links” that appear while writing a new blog post? If so, you can disable Zemanta by going to your Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings page:

In order to add a small Facebook and Twitter icon to your site, I’m afraid you will have to insert this manually via a Text Widget.
To do so, you can download icons from the Facebook and Twitter sites or by running a quick search on http://images.google.com. Then, save these images to your hard drive and upload them to your Dashboard -> Media Library.
You can then insert these images into your Text Widget using HTML. The HTML coding for an image is <img src=”insert image file URL here”>
To then make an image link to your Twitter and Facebook accounts, insert around your photo.
If you have any trouble at all with the HTML, please let me know and I’d be happy to create an example specific to your site :)

I apologize! It looks like I forgot our own rules and my example HTML coding to create a link disappeared :)
I’ve just inserted a Text Widget on your Dashboard -> Appearance -> Widgets page in your “Secondary Sidebar” that contains a Facebook icon with a link to your Facebook page.
I’ve also uploaded a Twitter icon to your account. To create a link to your Twitter account via this Text Widget, please insert the following:
<a href="http://twitter.com/YOUR-TWITTER-USERNAME/"><img src="http://queenofretreatsblog.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/twitter.jpg"></a> -
Hi – thanks – when I click on the F icon on my site that you put there it says the page I requested is not found??
I am not ready for a link to my F page yet, as it has nothing on it and I am about to go away – can you just put it into my admin / widgets and explain how I upload it when I’m ready?
Many thanks -
Why do any news items I write contain all the extraneous html info below? It makes it ugly for people to read.

You’re referring to a Pingback. The pingback takes a chunk of the linking post. There’s not enough text in the post itself, so it’s pulling in items after, like the Like button and such.
