I only want 2 to 3 pages of static text

I’m really new to this. Could somebody tell me in simple steps how to just have 2 to 3 static pages of text, no mention of wordpress on them, and no page to leave posts? I’m just trying to use this as an informational page. Also – if when you write in the page publishing form and it gets to be longer than the page would be, do you just keep typing ad it’ll make two pages?

If you start a blog here at wordpress.com, all the themes available will say “blog at wordpress, com” and the name of the theme somewhere on the page, usually the bottom, in small type. You can name your blog as you like, but it will have “wordpress.com” at the end of it. You’d have to be self-hosting to get rid of it.

If you are typing a page, it will scroll down and down so you could put a whole novel on one page.

Also I wanted to ask – if I’ve already made a static front page and a second blog page, is ther3e a way I can delete the blog page, just leaving the static front page, and then add another page to it?

First note that you’ve linked your name incorrectly: you’ve used the URL of your wp Profile, which is not accessible to others. You must use the main URL of your blog (from “http” to “com”).

    Now:

    – To create pages, you go to Write>Page.

You might be interested to know that some themes only show your list of pages in the sidebar (if you have added the pages widget) while others display page tabs in the header.

And if you want no posts, you must also go to Design>Widgets and remove all post-related widgets (categories, archives etc).

    – The length of a page expands to fit all the text you’ve written. If you DO want it split in a series of (numbered) pages, you use the nextpage tag – see the FAQ on that.

    – By “no page to leave posts” I guess you mean comments by visitors. Below the text editor you’ve got the “Advanced Options”: uncheck “Allow Comments” & “Allow Pings”.

    – Removing the reference to WP can only be done if you know CSS and buy the CSS upgrade; but it’s not fair to do so.

Re your new thread: you remove pages in Manage>Pages.

ha wow this is fast. thanks! i still dont really understand the thing about “you’ve linked your name incorrectly.” Wht does that mean exactly and how do I correct it?

ok did that. Just stay with me Im so close to getting this nailed. I now seem to have a (almost?) static, one page site: http://subartexchange.wordpress.com/. it says I have “no widgets included” in it. however at the bottom those things like “calendar” meta” “archive” etc. – aren’t those widgets? if so, how do I get rid of them?

    What is a widget? [screencast]

Please start a new forum thread for each different question. Thanks.

    – There’s no such thing as an “almost” static page. At the moment the front of your blog is not a static page, it’s just the regular posts page, with only one post. To set a static front page, you publish a suitable page (e.g. with some introductory text), then go to Settings>Reading and select that as your front page, then click Save Changes.

    – “No widgets” means none added by you, in which case the theme displays its own preset selection. To get rid of them you just add a widget: this way you take over – the preset is cancelled. If you want absolutely nothing in your bottombar, add a Text widget (just add it: no text, no title; but click Save Changes). Note that your theme has TWO “sidebars” in the bottom: you’ll have to do that for both.

ok cool thanks a lot! Then I can go nd delete the posts page and then all I’ll hve is the static front page?

also I wanted to know, can I go back and add more text to the static front page later? I mean edit it?

  • Unknown's avatar

thats funny. I did that thing with the text widget that was blank. it got rid of one sidebar but not the other. any idea why?

    1. You don’t delete the “posts page” (because that’s not a normal page like those you create, it’s the main posts AREA of your blog): if you set a static front page there’s simply no posts page anymore.

    2. Of course: in Manage>Pages.

    3. Because after selecting “Sidebar 2” you must click Show (otherwise you’re still seeing the contents of Sidebar 1).
